A Runt Luna novel Chapter 9

Kole watched as the she-wolves lined up, eager for his attention. Starting at the closest female he made his way down the line, none of them calling to him or his wolf.

The closer he got to the end of the line, the more excited his wolf was. It was the figure at the very end of the line that caught his eye. The women was petite no taller than 5'2", her brown hair hiding her face but he pictured her with hazel, or green eyes. She didn't make eye contact with him which was a normal way to show an Alpha respect. But this was different, this was out of fear.

Kole frowned as he looked down at her. Finally she looked up at him, shifting uncomfortably on her feet, and he was captured by her green eyes. They weren't as bright as he thought, something deep inside clouding them. She was his, he could feel it. His happiness was short lived however, as he noticed the black spots on her face, the deep bags under her eyes and the other marks that blemished her skin.

"Who did this to you?" His wolf growled.

She went to look away and before he could stop himself he cupped her chin. He didn't miss the flinch as he touched her.

"I asked you a question" He demanded. Seeing her start to tremble after his growl he let her chin go, not wanting to make her uncomfortable or worse, fear him. "Who dare harm my mate?" He questioned looked to one of the others seeing who wanted to confess. He knew it was mainly his wolf that was out. His eyes were silver, as they usually get when he's really angry or if his wolf had more of an influence on him.

He watched as everyone avoided eye contact, but suddenly Alpha Darren seemed to snap out of it, a smirk forming on his face.

"The runt is your mate? Well you can have her or what's left of her that is. She required some disciplinary action so she might be a dud. She's definitely damaged goods." Kole couldn't help but tense. Out of the corner of his eye he watched as his mate cringed, shying away. It took everything in him not to attack Darren. As much as he wanted to, his wolf was telling him that he would scare his mate away and that was the last thing he wanted to do.

"Watch yourself." Kole warned, the muscles in his jaw tightening.

"Why don't like the truth?" Darren asked. Before Kole had anytime to respond; it was his normally calm and collected sister that made the first move.

"You bastard!" Georgia snapped breaking from Alex's embrace and lunged at Darren, sifting in mid air. Blinking rapidly, Kole glanced at his sister in surprise.

Aurora stared at Darren, her fear growing. He didn't want to let her go, she would forever be locked in his clutches.

"Unless you want me to challenge you, you will let me have my mate without a fuss." Kole spoke. There wasn't much more that he could take. He wasn't going to let Darren treat him like this, and he sure as hell wasn't going to let him touch his mate again.

"You want to challenge me?" Darren spoke cockily. "Fine, so be it."

"Darren, what are you doing?" A blonde spoke, her eyes worried as she looked to Darren. "Just let them go, we don't want the runt anyway." She spoke. Kole could tell that the women wasn't Darren's mate, but she was someone important to him.

"Shut up Angel." Darren snapped at her, causing the blonde to flinch. Darren was silent for a moment, ignoring the glare that Kole was sending his way.
