18 Floors Above the Apocalypse novel Chapter 643

“Say yes!”

“Say yes!”

“Sadie, come on, say yes to him!”

Sadie jolted awake to find herself facing a handsome young man on one knee, holding a ring. The room was filled with about a dozen people, a mix of guys and gals, all with the fresh-faced look of youth.

What was going on? She was sure she had been at home, face mask on, scrolling through short videos. How did she end up here...

Ethan?

Confused, Sadie glanced around, her pupils suddenly constricting. Oh no, had she just... jumped into a book? Wasn't this the plot of that disaster novel she had been bored-scrolling through a couple of days ago?

The heroine's name was something like Stella, and the male lead... no, it was a no-romance book, but she had a crush on Hector, a real freeloader king, basking in Stella's pursuit and gifts, all while cheating on her with the school beauty.

Hector had not only eaten all of Stella's emergency supplies during a typhoon, but he kept gaslighting her until he pushed her to the brink, making her sell herself just to feed his never-ending appetite.

Stella, after accidentally unlocking some powers from the mysterious Arcadia, saw Hector's true colors, decisively crushed him, and then went on to make allies and level up in this apocalyptic world.

The original Sadie wasn't a bad person, just a bit vain. But due to the disaster, she was forced to side with Hector, and it didn't end well for her. Because they shared the same name, the real Sadie had felt a pang of sympathy when she read about the original's fate. She was just a minor character, a small casualty compared to the heroine.

In a world turned upside down, without superpowers, even the school beauty would have a worse fate than a dog's, selling herself for a pack of instant noodles...

She had cursed the ridiculous author, never imagining she'd actually jump into the story.

Complaining about a book was one thing; having it become your reality was another.

Panic set in for Sadie. This wasn't a joke. Even the superpowered Stella had a tough time surviving, narrowly escaping death countless times. She couldn't end up like the original Sadie.

Her family wasn't wealthy - assets barely in the millions - middle class at best. They had a housekeeper, and Sadie hadn't had to lift a finger her whole life. How was she expected to survive in such a brutal new world?

Eating bark or clay was the least of her worries. Many people turned into monsters or became their dinner... Unlike Stella, who could enjoy ice cream in sweltering heat or hot pot in the freezing cold.

She couldn't die here; she had to save herself!

Her first thought was to latch onto Stella, but she dismissed it immediately. Stella grew up in an orphanage, selfish and cold. Right now, her obsession with Hector blinded her, but once she snapped out of it, Hector would be less than nothing to her. And Sadie, as a love rival, wouldn't fare any better.

Since riding coattails wasn't an option, there was only one thing left to do... yes, steal Stella's superpowers!

With superpowers, she'd have a chance at life!

Desperately recalling the plot, Sadie remembered Stella's power came from a jade pendant. After Stella got a hold of Arcadia, she took Hector out, then tamed the wild Bran.

Ah, Bran, the son of the wealthy Griffith family. The Porras clan had once topped the national wealth charts. Bran was tall, handsome, and arrogant but generous to a fault with women, earning him the nickname "National Husband." He later became Stella's mobile supplies warehouse, a central figure in her team.

If Sadie could get the superpower and then get Bran on her side, she'd surely survive the disaster!

But she didn't even know Stella yet. To get the pendant, she'd have to go through Hector. For now, Stella was Hector's devoted follower. If he asked for the pendant, she would likely give it to him gleefully.

“Sadie, I've liked you for a long time.” Hector persisted on one knee, holding up the cheap-looking ring, “I designed this especially for you. I hope you'll accept it.”

Suppressing her disgust, Sadie blushed demurely, “I like you too, Ethan.”

Cheers and clapping filled the room. Ethan, ecstatic, slipped the ring onto her finger and pulled her into a passionate embrace.

The crowd teased, “Kiss! Kiss!” Seizing the moment, Ethan kissed her. Sadie had dated her fair share of rich kids, but this posturing pauper was a first. Still, survival was at stake, and she had to swallow her revulsion.

Once she got Arcadia, she'd deal with him.

Noticing Ethan's eager gaze, she couldn't help but say, “Is Stella coming today?”

Ethan, desperate for the latest Air Jordans and painfully aware of Stella's personality, knew if Stella saw him with Sadie, the gifts would stop. His hesitation was brief, but Sadie coaxed in her most charming voice, “Isn't she your friend? She lives in the same building. Call her down to join us.”

Her voice was like honey, melting Ethan's resolve. He was confident he'd get to enjoy her fully tonight. She was the school beauty, an experience yet unclaimed.

Stella was generous with her cash, but conquering the school beauty felt like a real achievement. Once he was bored, he could drop her and sweet-talk Stella back into his life. Fearing Sadie might misunderstand, Ethan's voice was deliberately cool.

Was it his imagination, or did he hear Stella's mocking laughter? “Fine, wait for me.” It was a fleeting thought. Despite Stella's shrewd nature, it was all a result of her upbringing. Such people craved love the most. Give them a shred of hope, and they'd dive into the flames, ha...
