“No,” Dominic said firmly. “We handle this ourselves. Quietly. Carefully. But going to the cops isn’t an option.”
I hated that he was probably right. Still, the idea of letting Nathan continue his schemes without immediate consequences made my skin crawl.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady the turmoil inside me. “Fine. But if we’re doing this ourselves, then I’m taking him off my case. I can’t have him representing me in court. Not after everything I know now.”
“Agreed,” Dominic replied, his gaze steady.
I hesitated, looking at him with a mix of frustration and desperation. “Why can’t you do it? You’ve got all the evidence. You’re the one who dug up all this dirt on him. Just... confront him yourself.”
Dominic raised an eyebrow, his expression firm. “Because it needs to come from you, Raina. You’re his client. If I go in there, he’ll spin it into something else—turn it into a power play or a threat. He needs to hear it from you, and you need to make it clear he’s done.”
The thought of facing Nathan made my stomach churn. The idea of standing in front of him, knowing what he was capable of, felt like stepping into a lion’s den.
I clenched my fists, my voice trembling with anger and nerves. “Fine. I’ll do it. But don’t expect me to handle this alone.”
Alex’s arm slid around my side. His touch was firm yet surprisingly gentle, and I could feel the weight of his gaze as he leaned closer.
“I can go with you,” he offered, his voice low but steady. “To tell Nathan he’s off the case.”
I froze for a moment, turning my head to look at him. “You want to go with me?” Was this even a good idea?
He nodded, his expression earnest. “Yes. All I need is a chance to prove that I’m not the man I was before.”
The sincerity in his voice made my chest tighten, but it also set off warning bells in my mind. Was this a good idea? Could I trust him to be by my side during this confrontation without making things worse?
