A Divorce He Regrets (Alissa Nexus) novel Chapter 145

ALEXANDER

This wasn’t the time for it. I clenched my fists as I stood in the doorway, staring at Eliza. Why did she have Vanessa call me? If I’d known this so-called emergency was about her, I wouldn’t have rushed back. Not now, not ever.

I felt my anger simmer as I imagined what Raina would think if she knew I’d dropped everything to deal with this mess. She would be livid. I’d worked too hard to earn her trust again, and this? This was just another obstacle.

“Say what you want, Eliza,” I said coldly, my voice steady as I stepped inside.

Her face lit up in that fake way of hers, and I had to fight the urge to look away. “Long time no speak, Alex,” she said sweetly, her tone enough to make my skin crawl. “I missed you.”

“Missed me?” I repeated, my voice dripping with disdain. “You missed me after everything you’ve done?” My focus narrowing on her like a laser.

“Why did you do it, Eliza?” My voice was calm on the surface, but beneath it was a sea of fury.

Her brow furrowed, confusion etched across her face. “Do what?” she asked cautiously.

Vanessa, who had been hovering nearby, jumped in. “Alex,” she said with a nervous chuckle. “Maybe you should sit down and talk this through. Eliza’s just—”

“Stay out of this,” I snapped, turning my glare on her. My voice cut through the air like a blade, silencing her instantly.

“I’m not done with you either,” I snapped. “You’ve got a lot to answer for, Vanessa. Don’t think for a second that I’ve forgotten how you played a part in all this.”

Vanessa flinched, her mouth shutting as if she’d been slapped. She took a step back, her earlier bravado evaporating. Good. I wasn’t done with her yet either. She was part of the reason my life was turned upside down.

Turning back to Eliza, I leaned in closer. “Why did you hurt my son?” I demanded, my voice lower but no less intense.
