As I walked through the door, Dominic was there, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. His sharp eyes immediately zeroed in on me, dissecting every inch of my expression.
“What the hell happened to you?” he asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and a rare flicker of concern.
I ran a hand through my hair, sighing heavily. The words left my mouth before I could soften their impact. “I had Eliza arrested.”
Dominic’s eyebrows shot up. He pushed off the wall, his stance growing rigid. “Eliza? Arrested?” He gave an aknowledging nod before muttering underneath his breath. “About time.”
My eyes instinctively sought Raina, who sat stiffly on the couch, her hands tightly clasped in her lap. She wouldn’t meet my gaze, but her tension was palpable. Even from across the room, I could see the way her shoulders tightened, her breath catching almost imperceptibly.
“She hurt my son,” I said simply, my voice low but steady, the weight of the confession filling the room.
The words hung in the air like a physical blow. Raina flinched, her hands clenching even tighter. Her reaction wasn’t lost on Dominic, who flicked his gaze between the two of us.
“Uhm,” Dominic muttered after a deep sigh. “I’ll give you two some space.” He didn’t wait for a response, turning sharply on his heel and heading toward the door.
The silence he left behind was deafening, stretching long and thin like a taut wire ready to snap.
I stepped closer to Raina, the distance between us feeling like an insurmountable chasm despite the few feet separating us. My heart pounded, each beat a reminder of the words I needed to say.
“I never apologized for Eliza’s actions,” I began, my voice quieter now, softer. “For what she did… to Liam, and to you.”
