A Divorce He Regrets (Alissa Nexus) novel Chapter 159

A cold sweat broke out on my forehead. Faith. The thought of her finding out about this twisted my stomach into knots. She was my world. If she believed for even a second that I’d betrayed her, it would destroy her. It would destroy us.

"What do you want?" I growled, my voice low and tight. I needed out of here but I also needed to know what game she was playing.

She leaned in closer once again, her smirk twisting into something darker. "You," she said simply. "I want you."

I stared back at her as incredulity pulsed through the body. "Cut the crap, Eliza. What do you really want from me?"

Her smile only grew. "To be your wife."

I felt like the rug had been pulled out from under me. "That's not happening," I said flatly. "I have a wife. And if it's money you're after, I can give you that. But this? Whatever this is? It's not going to happen."

Her eyes narrowed, and the air in the room seemed to grow colder. "Do you think I went through all this trouble for money?" she hissed.

I didn't answer. I turned my back on her and began to dress, my movements quick and jerky. My mind was racing. I needed to get to Faith, to tell her the truth before Eliza could spin her lies any further.

Buttoning my shirt, I suddenly realized something. I took out my phone and turned on the voice recorder before holding it out in front of Eliza. "Repeat that," I demanded, my voice glacial.

Anger warped her face. "Listen to me before you destroy yourself," she spat, her voice shrill and poisonous.

I leveled her with a glare. "Ruin me?" I repeated, my voice low and deadly. "Have you forgotten who I am? I'll find out the truth, Eliza. And when I do, you'll regret this.".
