A Divorce He Regrets (Alissa Nexus) novel Chapter 164

ALEXANDER

I took a deep breath. One was all I needed. My fingers hesitated just a moment before brushing along her cheek, my thumb grazing the soft curve of her jaw. Then, I kissed her.

It was gentle at first, cautious. I was testing the waters, unsure if this was what she wanted, what we both wanted. But the way her lips moved against mine, soft yet insistent, told me all I needed to know.

The kiss deepened, and her hands found their way into my hair as she pulled me closer, like I would slip away. Heat built between us, and before I knew it, the world outside stopped existing. All that was left was her: her scent, her warmth, her everything.

We stumbled into the bedroom, her laughter breaking the kiss as we careened off the doorframe. I barely noticed when the door fell shut behind us.

"Alex," she whispered, her voice barely intelligible through my haze of mixed signals—of hesitation and want—.

"I want you," I whispered against her lips, my voice husky with need. I pulled back just enough to look into her eyes, my hand still on her face. "But if you don't want this—if you don't want me—"

She didn't let me finish. Her lips crashed into mine, the kiss robbing me of the rest of my words. Her hands were pulling me down toward the bed, her body arching against mine as she dragged me on top of her.

"Don't stop," she whispered against my lips, her breath hot and trembling.

I paused for just a moment, my forehead against hers. "If it gets too much, or if you want me to stop, just tell me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

Her hands trailed down my back, her fingers curling into the fabric of my shirt. "I'll tell you," she promised, her voice steady despite the flush on her cheeks.

That was all the permission I needed.

I kissed her again, this time with a hunger I could no longer hold back. Her hands fumbled with the buttons of my shirt, her laughter breaking through when one stubbornly refused to cooperate. "You're not making this easy," she teased, her breathless laugh sending a jolt through me.

"Here, let me," I said, and shrugged out of the shirt, tossing it somewhere behind me. Her hands were on me again almost immediately, exploring the planes of my chest and shoulders as if memorizing every inch.

My lips followed the curve of her neck, paused at the hollow of her collarbone. Her breath hitched, and that sound unwound me. My hands traced a line down the length of her waist, her hips, before finding the hem of her blouse. I hesitated, looking up at her for confirmation.
