A Divorce He Regrets (Alissa Nexus) novel Chapter 210

Nathan cocked his head. "Don't make me force you, Faith."

I made myself pick up the fork. My hands were trembling ever so slightly, but I lifted it to my mouth and took a bite. The food was fine to my taste, though it was as if I chewed dust, but my body needed it, every swallow felt wrong, as if I'd be accepting something from the devil himself.

"Slow down," Nathan said, his eyes boring into me. "If you need more, I'll get more. No need to act like I'm starving you."

I wanted to toss the plate at his head. Instead, I took a deep breath, shoving the tray away when I couldn't bear another bite. I dabbed at my mouth with the napkin, forcing myself to look him in the eye. "What do you want?" I asked again.

Nathan sighed, shaking his head. "Faith," he said, almost disappointed. "You know what I want. Your husband does too."

A sharp unease crawled through me.

Then his lips curled into something sinister. "Tell me, who do you think Dominic will choose?"

I frowned. "What?"

Nathan's smile didn't falter. "If it came down to it—if he had to make a choice—who do you think he'd save?"

The truth of it slapped me in the face. My chest tightened. He was referring to Raina.

My heart thudded as I swallowed hard, choosing the right words. "This is pointless," I said, my voice steadier than I felt. "Dom and I are divorcing. Whatever it is you're trying to do, it's not going to work."

Nathan let out a low chuckle and shook his head like I had just said something amusing. "No, Faith. That's not possible."

I clenched my fists. "It's the truth."

He smiled, slow and knowing. "You think the man who fought tooth and nail to keep you safe is going to just let you go?"

I opened my mouth, but before I got a word out, Nathan had pulled out his phone and dialed a number. My stomach dropped. I could hear Dominic on the other end, his voice raw with frustration, fear.

Nathan put the call on speaker so I could hear Dom's voice crack, his words tumbling out in pure desperation. He was going insane.
