Chapter 53
Dominic chuckled, clearly not buying my attempt at nonchalance, but thankfully, he didn’t press.
I was just about to broach the subject of the SD card when a sudden jolt made me gasp. Champagne splashed across the front of my dress, the icy liquid soaking through the fabric and clinging to my skin.
I turned sharply, half expecting to see an apologetic face, but of course, it was her.
Eliza.
She stood there with her arms crossed, a look of faux innocence plastered on her face. “Watch where you’re standing,” she sneered, her voice dripping with condescension.
I clenched my jaw, my teeth grinding together as I bit back the sharp retort that was begging to escape. “I wasn’t moving,” I said evenly, my voice calm but firm.
Her smirk deepened, her eyes glinting with satisfaction as she sauntered off without so much as an apology.
The audacity of that woman.
Fuming, I turned back to Dominic, who was already eyeing Alex approaching us with thinly veiled annoyance.
“I’ll clean up,” I muttered to Dominic, shooting him a look that I knew he’d understand.
Dominic nodded, stepping forward just as Alex reached us, his towering presence effectively cutting him off.
“Raina,” Alex began, his tone unusually soft, “I’ll go with you.‘

“I don’t need your help,” I said sharply, brushing past him without a second glance.
Dominic’s voice, low and firm, carried over my shoulder as he addressed Alex. “You heard her. Leave her alone.”
I didn’t stay to hear Alex’s response. I needed space, and more than that, I needed to clear my head.
As I made my way toward the restroom, the weight of everything pressed down on me–the auction, Eliza’s presence, Alex’s persistence, Nathan’s unexpected appearance. It was too much, all of it swirling together in a suffocating storm.
I just needed a moment.
Just one moment to breathe.
I didn’t know then that I wouldn’t get it. With each step, something felt… wrong. A strange dizziness crept over me, my vision blurring at the edges. My limbs felt heavy, my steps unsteady.
I barely made it to the hallway leading to the restrooms when I felt a firm hand grab my arm. Before I could react, I was pulled into a quieter corner.
“Hey–let go!” I protested, trying to wrench my arm free, but the man didn’t budge.
He was tall, broad–shouldered, and his grip was like steel. His face was partially obscured by the dim light, but the low, menacing chuckle he let out sent chills down my spine.
“You’re not going anywhere,” he said, his voice dark and cold.
Panic set in as I realized the hallway was empty, the hum of the party muffled by the thick walls. I tried to push him away, but my body was growing weaker by the second. My vision swam, and my breaths came shallow and rapid.
“Let me go,” I demanded, my voice trembling despite my best efforts to sound strong.
The man leaned closer, his grip tightening. “Someone paid good money to make sure you had an unforgettable night,” he sneered. “I’m just here to make sure you enjoy it.”

The meaning behind his words hit me like a freight train, and fear coursed through my veins.

Ishook my head, trying to clear the fog that was quickly overtaking me. “I’ll pay you double,” I blurted out desperately, hoping to appeal to whatever shred of humanity this man might have.
He laughed, the sound void of humor. “Not a chance.”
I struggled against him, adrenaline surging despite the growing weakness in my limbs. I managed to raise my knee and drive it into his groin.
He let out a grunt of pain, his grip loosening just enough for me to break free. I stumbled toward the hallway, my vision narrowing into a tunnel, but before I could reach the door, he caught up to me.
“Stupid bitch,” he snarled, grabbing me again and pinning me against the wall.
I thrashed against him, my voice hoarse as I screamed for help, but the noise of the party drowned me out. His hand gripped the fabric of my dress, the sound of tearing fabric sending a fresh wave of panic through me.
I fought with everything I had left, but my strength was failing fast. Tears streamed down my face as I prayed for someone- anyone–to find me. Just before I could give up, he knocked me out
I hit him.
