A Divorce He Regrets (Alissa Nexus) novel Chapter 60

The doorbell rang, pulling me out of my thoughts. When I opened the door, I was greeted by a delivery man holding a neatly wrapped package.

Miss Graham?he asked.

Yes,I replied cautiously, taking the box from him.

He nodded and left, and I closed the door, already dreading whatever was inside. When I peeled away the packaging, I wasn’t the least bit surprised to find an evening gown. Emerald green, floorlength, with delicate lace details at the bodiceit was stunning, I’ll give him that. But seriously? A dress?

Alex had actually sent me a dress he expected me to wear. Did he think this was romantic? Did he think this would soften me, win me over? What exactly was he expecting from this date?

I sighed and shook my head. Still, I wasn’t about to turn this into a bigger deal than it needed to be. It was a dress, not an apology, and certainly not the grand gesture he probably thought it was.

The house was unusually quiet. Everyone seemed to have crowded around Faith and the baby, pitching in wherever they could. Even Dominic had been surprisingly domestic, doting on his wife and son like the perfect husband and father.

Iwas grateful for the peace.

On my way upstairs to get dressed, Adelaide, the housekeeper, stopped me.

Miss Raina, she said, a little too sweetly, do you need help getting ready?

At first, I wanted to brush her off. After everything that had happened between us, I didn’t trust her intentions. But something stopped me. Maybe it was my exhaustion, or maybe it was my desire to let her prove she could change. Either way, I found myself nodding.

Fine,” I said.

Adelaide followed me upstairs, and to my surprise, she was actually helpful. She worked quickly and efficiently, curling my hair into soft waves and applying makeup with a precision I hadn’t expected.

When she stepped back, I stared at the woman in the mirror. It didn’t feel like me. The hair, the makeup, the dressit was a

transformation.

Do you like it?Adelaide asked, clearly proud of her work.

I nodded reluctantly. You did a good job.

As I was putting on my jewelry, Adelaide tilted her head, a mischievous glint in her eye. So,she said casually, should we be expecting wedding bells soon?

I choked out a laugh, shaking my head. Absolutely not,I said firmly. And definitely not with the man I’m going out with tonight.

Adelaide laughed too, but the question lingered in the air. It wasn’t something I wanted to think about, not now, not ever.

After we exchanged a few more jokes, I made my way to Faith’s room, the sound of muffled laughter and soft conversation guiding me. I paused at the door, leaning against the frame for a moment, just watching.

The sight inside brought a faint smile to my lips. Faith was sitting up in bed, cradling her newborn son, her face radiant despite the exhaustion I knew she must feel. Dominic hovered nearby, looking every bit the doting husband and father. He held a burp cloth in one hand and was gently teasing the baby with his finger, eliciting tiny coos that melted the tension in the air.

Dominic,Faith chided playfully, her voice soft but firm. You’re going to wake him up again.
