After knowing Who She Is They Kneeled novel Chapter 27

Chapter 27 You Know You’re Dying?

It felt as if something was struggling to break through. A heat, spreading from the outside in. carried an almost destructive intensity.

Unconsciously, Adrian’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He stood there in the light and shadows, the motion unexpectedly, devastatingly sensual, a rare sight.

Everyone in Brookford knew of his famed asceticism.

He typically avoided even the slightest indulgence, maintaining a strict vegetarian diet.

His aura of untouchable, refined nobility had never been compromised.

Now, with his shirt partly open and hair slightly disheveled, the sight made Jonathon’s heart pound with dread.

Dr. Caldwell has truly crossed a line this time,he wondered.

Having worked closely with Antonio for so long, and given the longstanding friendship between the Caldwell and Winthrop families, Jonathon knew Adrian was a frequent visitor to the Caldwell Group, often regarding matters related to dissolving his engagement.

But in all these years, he had never seen Adrian look at anyone with such a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Most of the time, he was aloof and detached, sitting imperiously as if nothing and no one could stir his emotions.

How did Dr. Caldwell even think to unbutton his shirt?!Jonathon thought.

He clutched his head in despair.

Annelise, still unaware of the gravity of the situation, finished her lesson and prepared to leave.

The doctors were desperate to keep her but unsure how

The balding director blurted out, Dr. Caldwell, might you be interested in a position at our hospital? Compensation is negotiable!

Annelise tied up her long hair, her refusal blunt. No I don’t like getting up early.

11 203 Bar

You could hold consultations only in the afternoons!the director pressed enthusiastically, momentarily forgetting the powerful guest in their midst

Annelise remained unmoved. Practicing medicine is just a hobby for me. And, Mr. Pennington, have you forgotten something?

Calling this mastery a hobby was an insult to every real doctor.

Patrick asked, pained. What?

I’m a student at the technical school,Annelise said, slinging her black bag over her shoulder. The one you own, correct?

He was momentarily dazed. He did own such a school, a perpetually lossmaking institution in Criford that nobody wanted to attend. Poorly managed, it attracted lessthanstellar students, but he kept it running out of a sense of duty to provide an education for those who struggled academically.

But Annelise just said she was a student there.

Patrick felt faint. How can you be a technical school student?

I’m preparing for the specialized SAT this year,Annelise replied composedly.

Patrick clenched his fists. That’s not the point! The point is, a technical school student has a Lead Physician license and miraculous medical skills!he wondered.

He took a deep breath. Are you sure you won’t reconsider? I could grant you full credit completion.

Annelise laughed, a hint of mockery in her tone. Mr. Pennington, you might not know me well. I’m regularly late, leave early, and couldn’t care less about credits.

Words failed Patrick.

Adrian, listening to this exchange, allowed a faint smile to touch his lips. It wasn’t cold or dangerous, but unexpectedly captivating.

Annelise was baffled. Is that so funny?

Adrian made no move to adjust the shirt collar she had opened. He remained slightly bent, revealing a distinct collarbone. There seemed to be something on it: a mark, perhaps a tattoo.

Annelise couldn’t make it out clearly, only that it was red, a stark, vivid contrast against his pale skin.

You’re going to give Mr. Pennington a heart attack with your responses,Adrian said, amusement coloring his voice.

It was a tone that was hard to dislike.

Annelise’s deep eyes were clear and perceptive. She reached out and took his wrist again.

This time, he could see her complete seriousness.

Youshe began, her voice calm and measured, her gaze clear. You don’t have many years left. You know that, don’t you?
