SARAH
It’s been so long since anything…and I mean ANYTHING wore me out so bad that I fell asleep without knowing. It might not seem like a lot, but when you think about it, I’m a CEO of a famous insurance company, and a woman who works eighteen to twenty hours a day. So, believe me when I say these men, the HawkThorne brothers, wore me the fuck out!
I stretch my arms in my sleep and try to turn, only to be stopped by a strong arm that forces me to part my eyelids open.
I stare at Malachi’s hard jawline. His lips are slightly apart, and his eyes are closed. He has his right arm around me, while his left is tucked beneath his head. He looks peaceful and handsome when he’s asleep. He doesn’t seem like he has to watch his back every minute and keep the world away from hurting him, his brothers, or…even me.
It’s such a stark contrast to the man he is when he’s awake.
I prop my head up, hoping to catch a glimpse of the other brothers asleep. Do they all look as peaceful as Malachi does? Does Ronan still look like he’s ready to take a bullet at every turn? Does Jaxon still look like he’s ready to shoot a bullet at any turn?
“You’re awake, kitten.”
I turn in the direction of the voice to find Ronan seated on a chair behind me. He has both legs crossed over a stool, and his laptop on his lap. He’s naked, except for the briefs that keep his eight inch cock out of sight.
Without taking his eyes off me, he raises his cup to his lips and takes a sip of the warm liquid. I can tell it’s warm by the heat coming from the cup. The aroma that fills the room tells me it’s chamomile tea.
I blush, unable to look at him.
“Where’s Jaxon?” I ask.
“Asleep, where you should be.” Malachi drawls, and I tilt my neck to look at him. He makes an attempt to pull me back into bed, and I wriggle out of his hold.
“Not everyone can sleep like a baby, Malachi. I’m wide awake.” Jaxon’s voice is the next I hear. He’s seated beside the bathroom door, his phone in his right hand.
The way he looks at Malachi with a seemingly annoyed expression makes me laugh. Just like Ronan, he’s naked, and without his briefs.
Heat creeps from my stomach to my cheeks. Did they really spend the night watching over me?
I had thought I'd wake up to find myself tucked in bed, alone. But seeing them here, with me…I am not quite sure what to make of that.
It’s a good thing I have work to think about. I do not need to try to make sense of their decision. It means nothing to me, just as I’m sure it means nothing to them.
I clear my throat and sit up straight.
“What time is it?” I’m facing Ronan, but the question is directed to no one in particular.
Ronan’s gaze rises from the screen of his laptop, briefly resting on me.
“Seven thirty.”
“Fuck!”
The outburst is sudden, earning me a raised brow from Ronan. I snatch the heavy duvet from the bed and wrap it around my naked body as I plant my bare feet on the cold ground.
All three of the HawkThorne brothers have their eyes on me. I can feel the heat of their stares on my skin.
I swallow hard and push a loose strand of hair to the back of my right ear.
“You three need to leave, please. I need to get ready for work.”
“Come on, Sarah,” I shudder as Malachi’s fingers brush my shoulder, but I shrug him off and shift from the edge of the bed, rising to my feet.
“Do you really need to go?”
Between struggling to keep the duvet firm around my body and not squirming under Ronan’s amused gaze, I do not have the time to look at Malachi as I respond.
“I haven’t been consistent at work for a week now. My company needs me.”
I drag the heavy bedding behind me, and walk to the front of the room. Sweat trickles down my forehead by the time I’m near the door. I pause, suck in deep breaths, and turn to face them.
“Now, if you three will excuse me…” I point to the door.
Jaxon smiles at me.
