The force of it punches the air from my lungs. This isn’t gentle or hesitant. This is a man unraveling. A man drowning. A man who has been starving for years and suddenly tastes air again. His hands grip my hips, dragging me closer, as if he can’t get enough, can’t breathe without touching me.

My fingers tangle in his hair before I can stop myself, pulling him even closer. The kiss deepens. His tongue sweeps into my mouth, claiming, pleading, and cursing me all at once.

Every nerve in my body ignites.

He breaks the kiss only long enough to growl, forehead pressed to mine, “Tell me you want this.”

I grab his shirt, yanking him back down. “Take me, Alec.”

His control shatters like glass.

He kisses me again. Harder, deeper, as if he’s trying to erase any memory of another man touching me.

My hands fist in his shirt, pulling it. He rips his mouth from mine long enough to tear open the zipper of my dress.

The dress slips to the floor. I’m barely breathing. He’s staring at me like I’m the only thing keeping him alive.

“Sadie…”

One word. It’s a plea. A warning. A promise.

I grab his shirt and rip it. Buttons scatter across the floor. His chest rises and falls like a storm barely held together.

He lifts me, my legs wrapping around his waist as naturally as breathing. He carries me to the bed, his mouth on my throat, my shoulder and my jaw. Every kiss is a contradiction of apology and anger and unbearable want.

The second my back hits the mattress, I feel him everywhere. His weight, his heat, his trembling breath as he braces himself above me. He kisses me again, slower now, but deeper. A trembling hand cups my cheek, thumb brushing away a tear I didn’t know I shed.

“This… I want this,” he whispers into my mouth, voice breaking. “I want you, Sadie.”

My breath catches.

His forehead presses to mine.
