Chapter 830 Disowning Monica
Monica’s POV:
My eyes flew open, and there Hayley was, standing right in front of me.
Her lips were curved into a smile, but her eyes were cold and sharp, holding no warmth at all.
She radiated the same intimidating aura as my Benjamin. It was the kind that made one’s instincts scream danger.
A cold shudder ran down my spine. “Wh–what do you mean?” I stammered, my voice unsteady. “You-?”
“You’re wondering why I’m not making you give in, aren’t you?”
Hayley cut me off, her voice like ice. “Someone as precious as you? I wouldn’t dare let you give in. What if you hurt yourself? Then it’d be my fault, wouldn’t it?”
I frowned. Even though she wasn’t forcing me to give in, I felt no relief.
If I didn’t give in now, Baxter would never spare me later.
He’s my master. Everything I know about chess, I learned from him. What if he refuses to teach me again?
Weighing my options, I forced a smile and tried to sound respectful. “Of course not. I’m not that fragile. Giving in to you and Master is something I’m willing to do. I lost fair and square. I’ll honor the bet.”
“Oh, is that so?” Hayley let out a sharp, mocking laugh. “You change your mind now? Ready to slap yourself?
“But it’s too late now. I’m not interested anymore.”
Her expression shifted instantly, turning cold and unyielding. Her voice cut through the air with such authority that I instinctively recoiled.
I froze, breath caught in my chest, and shot a frantic glance toward Baxter, hoping for some kind of intervention.
But Baxter’s attention was locked on Hayley, his expression unreadable.
Hayley tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her tone dangerously calm. “Just so we’re clear, I don’t care what outsiders say about me.
“But I have a low tolerance for injustice. So let’s set the record straight.”
My heart hammered wildly.
What was she doing?
Monica’s composure shattered completely. Humiliation burned through her, and she broke down into desperate, choking sobs.
All her earlier arrogance had evaporated, leaving only a raw, helpless vulnerability. She could only stare pleadingly at Baxter.
“I accepted you as my student because I believed you were genuine and had real potential. I never expected you to become this deceitful and unreasonable.” he stated, his voice cold and distant.
“From now on, you are no longer my student.”
Monica stood frozen, her mouth agape in stunned disbelief.
“Master, please … ” she whispered, her voice trembling.
But Baxter had already turned his back on her. His demeanor shifted entirely as he addressed me with deep respect. “Master, it is
a rare honor to be in your presence. Would you do me the honor of joining me for coffee? I have just received an exceptional batch of beans sourced directly from the Shadow Pack. I am certain you will find them to your liking.”
The mention of coffee from our Pack piqued my interest. I didn’t turn him down.
Then, glancing toward Truman, I asked, “Will you be here to finish the final round?”
