Atticus's Odyssey: Reincarnated Into A Playground novel Chapter 1419

Chapter 1419: Night Talk

At Atticus’ command, Oberon slowly shut his eyes.

Both his arms were clenched so hard the air around them trembled.

’He’ll take my power...’

Without power, survival in a world like this was nigh impossible. He had spent years being Atticus’ second in command, and by all things considered, he had been good at it.

So good that he was sure of it, the number of enemies he’d made were incalculable. If word of his sudden weakness should spread, he could kiss his life goodbye.

’He won’t help me.’

Atticus taking his Eldorian power is a clear indication that he’d fallen out of favor with him.

’It’s not his fault. I was the one who chose this. I don’t regret anything.’

He had chosen love over power, and Oberon refused to cast any blame on Atticus. As an intellectual, choosing love over clear survival was ludicrous and by all fact, stupid.

But it was his choice, and he would carry the cross alone.

"I’m ready."

As Oberon said, he felt Jenera’s arm around him tighten.

"It’s fine, honey. We’ll be fine."

He gently brushed her silky hair and breathed out heavily. His expression turned determined, and he waited for the eventual weakening.

’He’s coming.’

Oberon felt Atticus’ arm slowly reach out for his face. But just as he was about to touch his head, it stopped.

’Huh?’

Oberon was about to open his eyes when—

Flick!

His head snapped back slightly.

’Did he just... flick me?’

Blinking, Oberon opened his eyes, his hand pressed against his forehead.

"My power? It’s still there..."

He focused on his front, only to see Atticus standing before him with an amused smile. Beside him, Jenera had both hands over her mouth, shoulders trembling as she tried, and failed, to stifle her laughter.

Oberon frowned, rubbing the spot on his forehead. "What is going on?"

Jenera couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into laughter.

"See?" she said, turning to Atticus, "I told you he’ll fall for it!"

Oberon scowled. This situation might be baffling, but he wasn’t an Enigmalnk for show.

"It’s a... prank?"

Atticus found it hard to also hold back his laughter.

"Yes it was," he said, shaking his head, "of course I don’t mind if you and Jenera got together. Is that how little you think of me?"

Oberon shook his head and quickly spoke.

"N-no, of course not, Supreme Ruler."

"Then why were you scared of telling me?"

Oberon’s eyes darted to Jenera, silently pleading for rescue, but she only gave him a helpless shrug.

’This was her plan!’ he realized, feeling utterly betrayed.

"I was just—"

"Oh, please, take it easy on my husband," Jenera interrupted, stepping closer with a teasing smile. "I believe he respects you too much. He probably overthought everything."

As her laughter slowly subsided, she reached out and held Oberon’s arm again, gazing at him with twinkling eyes.

"He’s cute like that."

Oberon felt warmth creeping up his cheeks. He coughed and looked away, his ears burning.

’Here goes.’

"Atticus."

A voice came from behind. Atticus didn’t need to turn to know whose it was.

With calm steps, Zoey reached and stood in the spot beside Atticus.

"What’s going on?" she said, "and don’t try to pretend and say it’s nothing. I know something’s wrong. Tell me."

It’s been months since they’d seen each other due to Atticus’ sudden training. Teasing had been a natural part of their relationship for a while now.

Her statement, "you abandoned me," had only been a tease. She had expected something flattering, something to confirm that they were still where they had left off. But Zoey had instantly noticed the shift in mood.

Something was wrong, and as she spoke, she had no idea when her heart began beating fast.

’Please...’ she hoped it wasn’t what she feared.

"You’re right. There’s something wrong," Atticus’ words were followed by the wind blowing. He turned to her as his hair flayed behind him.

"...I want us to take a break."

Zoey felt her heart stop.

’No...’

Her fears were coming true. Three months... what happened during these three months?

’Did he stop loving me?’

Her hands began shaking. She turned her eyes to the ground and tried to think, but failed. Her mind had gone blank, and tears welled up in her eyes.

’He found someone else.’

As the first drop of tears fell, she wiped them away with her sleeve.

"Zoey..."

"Why?" she asked with a cracked voice. "Tell me why."
