Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 250

**TITLE: Gloom 250**

**Chapter 250**

**Conrad POV**

It has been two weeks since the shadow war came to a devastating conclusion, marking the loss of Malik. A week has passed since Lewana was confined to bed rest, and now, with the Luna Queen Ceremony looming just four weeks away, and the twins expected to arrive in five, I find myself enveloped in an unexpected sense of tranquility.

As I sit in my office, I gaze out the window, watching the pack members move about their daily routines. A sense of calm washes over me, replacing the usual anxiety that once gripped my heart. The responsibilities of the Alpha role have been shared with Arthur, allowing me to dedicate more time to caring for my mates. Meanwhile, Liam has taken the reins of our company holdings, ensuring everything runs smoothly on that front. We’ve recently welcomed two new pack members who are in training to become Betas, bolstering our support system. One is closely shadowing Arthur, while the other is learning the ropes from Liam. To further streamline our operations, we’ve removed training from the Betas’ duties and established a clearer hierarchy akin to a military structure within our ranks.

Gone are the days of feeling overwhelmed by the minutiae of leadership. I no longer bear the crushing weight of having to manage every single detail myself. Instead, I see a pack united in its purpose, supporting one another as it should be, with the mother and father guiding the way rather than merely issuing commands.

As lunchtime approaches, I decide to head to the kitchen to see Mary, my mother.

“Hey, Mum!” I call out as I step into the warm, inviting space, wrapping my arms around her as she stirs something delicious on the stove.

“Hi, honey! How is she doing today?” Her voice is tinged with concern, and I know instantly that she’s asking about Lewana.

“Same as before. Scared. Uncomfortable. Tired,” I reply, a hint of worry creeping into my tone.

Mary lets out a heavy sigh, her brow furrowing with empathy. “Well, unfortunately, this is to be expected at this stage of her pregnancy. We are most vulnerable right now, especially with the risk of another attack looming over us. Honestly, it was nothing short of a miracle that she managed to fight in the war, let alone emerge victorious.”

A smile breaks across my face, warmth filling my chest at the thought of Lewana’s tenacity. “I know. I’ve always believed in her strength, but she continues to astound me. I just hope that things can settle down for her soon, allowing her to enjoy a peaceful life with our pups.”

Mary chuckles softly, shaking her head. “Non-eventful and twin pups don’t exactly belong in the same sentence, dear.”

“Fair enough,” I concede with a smirk. “I’ll settle for no more attempts on our lives and no kidnappings.”

Mary approaches me, her hand gently rubbing my back, offering comfort. “No one can guarantee that in your position. But what we can promise is that your allies and pack will stand beside you as you lead us. I can feel it, you know? The shift in the pack’s energy.”

“I can feel it too,” I reply, a sense of pride swelling within me.

As I assist Mary in preparing lunch, placing items carefully on a tray to take to Lewana, I suddenly hear the door creak open. I turn, expecting to see Liam, but instead, my heart skips a beat as I find Lewana standing there, barefoot and adorned in one of her flowing maternity dresses.

I rush to her side, concern etched across my features. “Moonlight, what are you doing out of bed? You’re supposed to be resting!”

She meets my gaze with fierce determination, as if she has rehearsed this moment and is ready for a debate. “I refuse to stay cooped up in bed, isolated for an entire month. I know my own body, and I can handle a little bit of walking. I’m going to start attending family dinners again and taking short walks. I’ll only go as far as the medical clinic, check in with the pack, and I’ll have a room down there where I can rest.”
