Camila’s hand trembled as she held the file.
She tried to keep her expression neutral, but the effort was futile.with every line she read, her composure cracked further, her knuckles whitening around the edge of the paper.
Ethan, on the other hand, leaned back, enjoying her reaction. He was unsure about the terms at first but now he was sure of it, that was exactly the lifeline Camila needed right now. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Written in the file was just two simple clauses that he was ready to be negotiated but it seemed they were the perfect two clauses.
Clause one stated that Drake Systems’ infrastructure would be full acquired by OmniTech Corp. That included every liability, within two days of acquisition.
This meant that whatever Drake systems was owing Avance, would be handled by OmniTech.
Camila’s breath hitched.
The weight she’d been dragging behind her for months, causing her sleepless nights, would be lifted just like that.
But it was the second clause that fully shattered her composure.
Clause two stated that she would remain as the Director of Operations for the newly acquired infrastructure, with full managerial control and a guaranteed five-year contract under OmniTech Corp.
When Drake Systems was first put up for sale, Camila had resigned herself to walking away completely. She thought she would sign the papers, hand over the keys, and disappear from the tech world—bitter, broke, and forgotten.
That was honestly why she’d turned down so many offers.
Most buyers just wanted the infrastructure or it’s location since it was predicted to be the next prime real estate location.
No one cared about the years she poured into building it, or the sacrifices she made keeping it alive when the debts started stacking up. They saw value in the metal, not in her.
But this?
This was completely out of her expectations.
Camila stared at him, still unsure if this was all just a big prank. "You know, you could hired a whole new team and started fresh. You know that, right?"
She waited for Ethan to chuckle, withdraw the file, and reveal his real offer—the one that would expose his true intentions and give her a reason to kick him out like the others.
But—
"I do." He nodded.
"Then... why?" she asked again, her eyes narrowing now, searching his expression. "What do you hope to gain by making an offer that holds no advantage for you?"
Ethan didn’t answer immediately.
He simply leaned back in his chair, the faintest smile appearing his lips.
"Let’s just say," he said slowly, "I believe in backing the right people."
It was a lie, well, not entirely. Camila was brilliant, a fact proven by how well Drake Systems was trusted. But the real reason was more of a strategic decision.
She knew both the network and the systems. More importantly, she had the loyalty of the remaining staff, people neither Ethan nor Lillian had time to vet or train from scratch.
Especially with so little time he had left.
Keeping her in charge meant a seamless transition. It meant Sentinel would be on perfect track for launch.
Camila watched him closely before sighing. No matter how she looked at it, the offer looked like one that only someone naive could make.
But Ethan looked anything but.
"If you need time to think —" before Ethan could complete his words, Camila had already reached for the pen.
