She said, “Ms. Daphne, this offer is already more than generous. You know about ‘The Ethereal Voice‘, the music show, right? I want to use the song as my centerpiece. I’m going to…”
Jeremiah could no longer hold back.
He slammed the table and snapped, “Daphne’s already made herself very clear. She doesn’t wanna sell it. Maxwell, enough is enough!”
Maxwell looked at Jeremiah icily. Though he remained seated, his presence was much more imposing than that of Jeremiah.
Stephanie wiped away her tears and tugged at Jeremiah’s sleeve.
“Alright. I’ll sell it,” she said.
“The Ethereal Voice” was the music show she was going to participate in.
Jeremiah was a bit surprised.
But in fact, Stephanie’s reaction was what he wanted to see.
It was why he had called her here.
He was only the third son of the Conway family, whereas Maxwell took charge of the entire Humphrey Group.
If possible, he preferred to avoid any conflict wit.. Maxwell.
However, he had to admit he was surprised to hear Stephanie agree so readily.
Chapter 17
He had been planning on persuading her in private.
Frowning, he observed her expression, trying to figure out what she was thinking.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t because of the huge sunglasses that covered most of her face.
“Let’s go through the formalities.”
Stephanie didn’t explain anything since Maxwell and Roxanne were still here. She lowered her head slightly, her gaze falling upon the upscale wooden desk. Its surface was marked with tree rings, in stark contrast with her heart, which was like a pool of dead water with no ripples at all.
“Conway Entertainment fully manages my musical works. We’ll follow standard agency procedures.”
Saying this, she looked at Jeremiah, who was standing aside.
He immediately caught her drift and waved his hand, signaling his subordinate to deal with Roxanne.
Roxanne looked at Stephanie, a trace of contempt flickering in her
eyes.
“Ms. Daphne, you indeed picked the perfect time to agree to our offer,” she said, mocking Stephanie’s final compromise.
Stephanie smiled while saying nothing.
She stood up, left the office, and went to the break room to pour herself a cup of coffee.
Jeremiah caught up with her.
Chapter 17
“Stephanie,” he called out.
She turned around and nodded slightly. “Hey, Jeremiah.”
With a complex expression, he pondered for a while before finally asking, “Why?”
She smiled.
Clearly seeing the hesitation on his face, she said, “You heard her, right? She said she’d participate in ‘The Ethereal Voice‘.”
Jeremiah nodded, still in a daze. Then he said, “Yes, I did. But she’s gonna be a guest judge, not a contestant: You know, more like an ‘encouraging judge‘ instead of a regular one.”
The smile on Stephanie’s face grew bigger.
She set down the coffee and asked, “So, aren’t you looking forward to that?”
Jeremiah was confused.
She explained, “Maxwell and I have gone to the courthouse already. Only after the thirty–day cooling–off period can we receive our divorce certificates.
