She had already turned down Lennon, but this time the Wilkinson Group offered help as a partner, not for her personally,, so it seemed natural and she couldn’t refuse.
Work was work, personal stuff was personal, the two had to be kept separate.
A few people were chatting, the car was driving smoothly, McKayla was scrolling on her phone, and then she saw the news that Maxwell was sick and in the hospital.
After thinking about it, McKayla still showed it to Stephanie. After all, Stephanie would see it online when she got back anyway.
“He deserved it,” Jeremiah said.
Stephanie didn’t comment, just said got it.
That’s all.
There wasn’t anything else.

When Maxwell groggily woke up, it was still the middle of the night, and everything in front of him was a blur.
It seemed like someone next to him was wiping his arm.
A blurry shadow, it was a woman.
He grabbed the other person’s hand.
“Steph.” he said hoarsely.
“Mr. Humphrey, you got the wrong person.” The nurse pulled his hand down and said. “I’m not Mrs. Humphrey.”
It wasn’t until now that his vision finally cleared up and he saw the nurse in front of him.
Maxwell turned his head with a headache and saw the pale ceiling of the hospital room and the IV drip on the side.
“Bro!” Estrella’s voice came, “Stephanie was really too much!”
“She went off to have fun herself, and didn’t even come to see her husband after making him so mad he ended up in the hospital!”
“Just now it was Wesley who brought you over, your phone was right next to you, I just checked the screen, she didn’t call even once!”
Maxwell felt really tired, he just didn’t feel like arguing with Estrella at all, and just reached out to grab his phone.
Unlocked the lock screen, and a bunch of messages popped up.
Grandpa and grandma’s concern, greetings from people we knew from different partners, and Roxanne’s caring messages, but when I scrolled all the way down, there still wasn’t any message from Stephanie.
Maybe because he was sick, he actually had this fragile feeling now.
“That’s so annoying, I…” Estrella was still mumbling on the side.
Maxwell just felt a headache.
He put his phone aside and closed his eyes again.
I remember a long, long time ago, there was a time when he got sick
because he was too tired. It was just a mild fever, but Stephanie stayed by his side, taking care of him and watching over him all night.
He still remembered, when he woke up in bed the next day, he saw her leaning over by his bedside.
She woke up when she heard the noise, and all she had in her eyes when she looked at him was worry.
“Max, you finally woke up.” She said worriedly back then, leaning over to touch his forehead.
She only spoke with red eyes after making sure the fever was gone: “Thank goodness, the fever’s gone, Max, I was so worried about you.”
But now…
The caregiver stayed by his side.
A huge sense of gap swept over him.
It almost made him unable to breathe.
Estrella was still talking next to him, and Maxwell felt really annoyed.
“Enough.” Maxwell’s voice was hoarse from being sick. “Estrella, go back and rest. I’m fine, just too tired. I’ll be better tomorrow.”
Estrella wanted to say something, but seeing Maxwell like that, she ended up swallowing her words.
“Okay, Max, I’ll come see you again tomorrow,” Estrella said, reminding the caregiver of a few things before she finally left.
The ward got quiet.
Maxwell let out a sigh of relief, but after things quieted down, his

mind just kept bringing up a lot of stuff from the past.
A lot, a lot of things with Stephanie.
