Chapter67
There was a bathroom on the balcony.
Stephanie walked into the bathroom, Patrick waited for her on the balcony.
In the bathroom, Stephanie looked at the clothes in her hand, thought for a moment, and finally spoke.
“Patrick, Kayla and I grew up playing together, we’re really good friends, and since you’re her brother, I saw you as my brother too.”
It was only through the bathroom door that Stephanie dared to say it.
“So, don’t take Kayla’s jokes about paying or not paying seriously.”
With just a door between them, Patrick stood outside, and the smile on his face slowly faded.
The noon sunlight shone at his feet, and there was a silent darkness in his eyes.
He went silent for about a second.
Then he just shrugged and said, “Got it. Hasn’t Kayla always been like this, just acting on a whim?”
Stephanie, who was in the bathroom, listened to Patrick’s voice and didn’t notice anything strange, so she let out a sigh of relief.
She was really afraid Patrick would take it seriously.
Because she had always just seen him as McKayla’s brother, nothing
more.

Recently, McKayla kept looking for chances to set them up. She had mentioned it to McKayla many times, but McKayla still did things her
own way.
It was good to get things out in the open today.
So there wouldn’t be any awkwardness later.
Thinking about it, Stephanie quickly changed her clothes.
“Ha ha, from your voice, did Kayla scare you?” Patrick’s voice came from the other side of the door. “Can you walk on your own? Can you change your clothes by yourself? Do you need me to call someone for you?”
Hearing Patrick’s teasing words, Stephanie finally relaxed.
Still that annoying tone, which meant there wasn’t really a problem.
So she snapped, “I’ll change it, none of your business!”
Stephanie quickly changed her clothes. With the dirty clothes in one hand, she opened the bathroom door and gave Patrick, who was standing outside smiling at her, a glare.
Still with that laid–back look, he reached out his hand: “Empress Dowager, please hold on tight.”
Stephanie put her hand up to steady it with a bit of annoyance, and the two of them walked toward the rippled glass door.
Through the rippled glass door, she seemed to vaguely see someone standing at the door of the hospital room.
Just couldn’t see it clearly.
The two of them opened the balcony door and came out.

The wind blew through the hallway, and Stephanic shivered.
She looked at the open door of the hospital room, and maybe because of the wind, it was still gently swinging.
“Patrick, was the door to the hospital room open just now?” Stephanie asked.
“I don’t remember.” Patrick didn’t care, either.
He walked right over and closed the door to the hospital room.
Stephanie nodded and didn’t think much about it. Maybe she saw it wrong, or maybe it was just someone passing by outside. This was a hospital, so it was normal for people to come and go.
Outside the ward. Maxwell walked to the corner with a tense face.
Leaning against the corner wall, his lips were pressed tightly together.
He could still hear the two of them joking on the balcony, and through the textured glass door, he could vaguely see them leaning together.
Was it her trick again?
Did she do it on purpose so he’d see her with someone else and get jealous?
It already felt off when he went to the hospital front desk to ask which room Stephanie was in.
They said it would take some time to check which room Stephanie was in. Had they already gotten the news by then?
Deliberately waited for him to go upstairs, then put on a show for him.
Maxwell closed his eyes, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles

There was a feeling in his heart that he couldn’t control.
