"Don’t worry, Miss Robbins. Rodney doesn’t have any real power now. The projects he has aren't going well either. On the other hand, you're the top celebrity of Felix Media, who has the backing of Jewell Corporation. Who would dare to give you a hard time?”
Eliza touched her neck, which was red from being strangled. She sneered in her heart.
'Rodney, go ahead and be angry. The angrier you are, the more frustrated and regretful you'll feel.'
However, the game had only just begun.
After leaving the banquet, Eliza's phone rang.
It was Chester who called. After picking it up, his cold voice sounded. "Eliza, you're pretty amazing, huh? To think you made such a huge commotion from attending a banquet.”
"Why? Are you a mute now?” Chester got even furious when he did get a reply.
"No..." Eliza spoke with her dry and painful throat," Young Master Snow strangled me. My throat feels uncomfortable.”
"You're so bold. Why didn't he strangle you to death?" Chester's mockery sounded as if it was laced with poison.
"If he strangled me to death, you wouldn't be able to play around with me anymore... Young Master Jewell," Eliza said hoarsely.
"It’s good you know. Eliza, your life is mine now. Stop playing games." Chester sneered. "I'm clear of
Rodney's character. I know very well what you said that could’ve agitated him like that."
"Forget Rodney. I, too, would like to kill you. Did I rescue you and cover-up for you back then for you to g o up to Rodney and tell him everything? If he digs into it a little more, he’ll know that I was the one providing the information behind the scenes."
"So... You still want to be a good person even after you betrayed your best friend?" A sarcastic expression appeared on Eliza’s face. She was in awe of his shamelessness.
"Who did I f*cking betrayed my best friend for?" Chester asked.
After a moment of silence, Eliza said, "It wasn't for me. It was most probably for the sake of Lil' Chester."
"Lil' Chester?” The corners of Chester’s mouth twitched, and then he smiled playfully. "Eliza, you really are something."
"Come."
Chester beckoned to Eliza with his fingers and placed his laptop aside.
Eliza went over expressionlessly until a warm palm grabbed hold of her wrist. The next second, she fell and sat on his legs.
"Did Rodney do this?" Chester immediately saw the fingerprints on her neck and could tell that she had been strangled very tightly. He narrowed his eyes.
"Mm,” Eliza replied indifferently as if the one who got strangled was not her.
"I heard you were almost strangled to death." Chester's fingertips caressed her neck slowly like a snake’s tongue. "Eliza, this is the first and final time. Don't ever do this again. I'm still not done with you, so nothing can happen to you. Do you understand?"
His words sounded gentle yet cold and heartless.
Eliza raised her head and glanced at him. She said," Rodney wouldn’t dare."
