“Well, thanks. If I disclose this, my wife might even divorce me,” Shaun said with much self-awareness. “Tell me. Is Eliza actually Charity?”
‘F*ck!’
Chester clenched his jaw. He knew that b*stard could guess it.
“Is it true?” Shaun was shocked upon seeing Chester keeping quiet.
“Didn’t Charity die in the sea?” Shaun found it unbelievable. “Oh, unless she didn’t die, changed her appearance through plastic surgery, and became the Eliza now? Wait. Where did the real Eliza go?”
Chester initially just wanted to reveal that Charity had transmigrated. However, seeing Shaun guessing blindly, he simply said, “The real Eliza committed suicide after being in a relationship with Monte, and Charity passed herself off as Eliza. That was why the real Eliza’s acting skills were mediocre when she first entered the entertainment industry, but it leveled up after Charity replaced her.”
In fact, Chester’s words were not entirely false. Was Charity not replacing Eliza and living in her stead right now?
Shaun still found it puzzling. “How did Charity escape back then? I heard she accidentally fell into the sea.”
“Falling into the sea doesn’t necessarily mean she was eaten by fish. She was rescued by the fishermen passing by. After that, she hid her identity and found Eliza, whom she had known since she was young.”
Chester was saddened by the lie he had made up. In the end, he said annoyedly, “Shaun, Catherine isn’t only treating Eliza well because Charity used to be her friend. It’s also because you owe Charity a lot. Do you understand?”
Remorse filled Shaun’s eyes. “The debt I owe the Neeson family can never be repaid. If only I had been more clear-headed and picked Cathy and Charity’s side, I wouldn’t have thought that Charity was a murderer. The Neeson family couple wouldn’t have passed away too.”
“You made a mistake, but I’m no better either.” Chester said self-deprecatingly, “I even hired a lawyer and sent the person I love to prison.”
“No wonder…” Shaun patted his shoulder. “No wonder you suddenly endangered your life to save her. I would’ve done that if I were you too, but Chester, don’t shoulder all the responsibility yourself. I was the one who made the biggest mistake.”
“It’s meaningless to say these things now.” Chester turned to look at the snowy mountains outside. “I thought of giving up, but I just can’t let go. The name Charity Neeson has become someone that I can never get over. If she forgives me, getting disfigured or losing a leg is nothing. Even if I lose both legs, I’ll crawl to her every day just to be by her side.”
Shaun’s feelings resonated with Chester. He had also experienced a relationship and fully understood the taste of it.
