Kelly’s POV
Snow is recovering and she was transferred to the private room yesterday. I’m happy that she’s safe and more than happy now because she’s happy with her father. Pierce hasn’t talked to me for days and just like what I said, I understand. When I was angry at him for hurting me, I did not talk to him either. I even pretended to have amnesia which didn’t go well since he knows me too well.
I was watching my daughter and her father on the bed. Pierce was feeding Snow and she likes it so much. Seeing it makes me tear up.
“Kelly, let’s eat,” Emily poked my arm.
I looked at her and smiled, shaking my head. “I’m not hungry yet.”
She glared at me. “Snow’s recovering now. She’s back to being bubbly. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
I pressed my lips together and did not say anything, but I felt Pierce’s presence beside me. I sucked my breath when he put the empty plate on the table beside me and shot me cold glares as he clenched his jaws. I feel so cold with his icy stares.
“My child needs nutrients. If you want to suffer, suffer alone. Don’t involve my children in your misery.”
His words brought me pain. I feel like I was stabbed a million times. I did him wrong and even when I know that it’s not all my fault, I should face his anger because he has the right to get this mad.
I watched him as he turned his back on me and went back beside Snow. I swallowed the lump in my throat and walked towards him and Snow.
“Mommy, have you eaten?”
I smiled and kissed her hair. “I’ll go with Aunt Emily for a while to eat, okay? Stay with d-daddy.”
She smiled sweetly. “Yes, mommy. Take care! Aunt Emily, take care!”
Emily smiled sweetly and waved at her before she grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the room.
“Your ex is so annoying, Kelly!”
I smiled bitterly. “He was hurt. Anger is a natural defense mechanism when you’re hurt. You know it well, Emily.”
“Yes, but does he think you wanted to hide it from him? He was weak and still so weak until now. He can’t even protect his own family from Klay Carver.”
“Emily...”
“What? It’s the truth! He should’ve fought for you if he loved you but he didn’t, right? He gave you up on a crazy bastard. He didn’t fight.”
“He tried,” I whispered. “It was me who didn’t want him to fight back then because I’m afraid of getting hurt again.”
“And you should’ve remained fighting against your own feelings if he’d end up like that.”
He slowly lifted his face and looked at me. “Amanda’s the one who pushed your father off the window. He was trying to escape...but Amanda caught him and he was pushed. I-I’m sorry...”
I sobbed. “I will never forgive you, Klay.”
He nodded and tried to touch my cheek but I moved away. Pain crossed his eyes as he nodded again and swallowed hard. “I-I just need to do something but after this, I’ll report myself and pay for my sins.”
My forehead creased. He’s willing to pay for his sins? He’s from a family of syndicates. It’s impossible for him to reflect on his mistakes. I just...couldn’t bring myself to believe it.
“I don’t believe you.”
“I-I know...”
I pressed my lips together and at him with hatred in my eyes. He can see it clearly but I don’t care.
“How is she?” He asked after a few seconds of silence.
I balled my fists. I still remember how he threatened me using my daughter. It still makes my heart ache in so much anger.
“I will never let you go near her. Never!”
He licked his bottom lip and nodded. He fixed his bullcap before he pulled himself up and started walking towards the exit.
