Asher’s POV
The elevator doors opened, and I wore a deep frown on my face as I stepped out into the office. My work had suffered in the past few weeks I hadn’t
shown up here.
It was like Ivy had taken my will to live the moment she stopped speaking to me. Waking up felt like a chore, and coming to the office was well…
Stacy, my assistant, was on me before I’d made it five steps. “Good morning, Mr. Sterling. Your first meeting is scheduled for ten–”
“Cancel it,” I interrupted, not breaking my stride.
She hesitated, trotting to keep up with my brisk pace. “Uh, alright. But you also have-”
“Cancel everything,” I snapped. “I’ll be in my office all day. No interruptions.” I knew there was no need to be mean to her, but I couldn’t help it. I was deeply irritated.
Her voice wavered slightly, but she recovered quickly. “Understood. I’ll reschedule the rest, and I’ll let-”
“And send coffee to my office,” I added, cutting her off again.
“It’s already on the way,” she said hurriedly, her heels clicking against the polished floor as she struggled to match my pace. “Also, there’s someone
waiting-”
I stopped abruptly at my office door, making her nearly stumble into me. “What? Who?”
She opened her mouth, but I didn’t wait for her answer. I pushed the door open, and froze.
Luca was sitting in my chair, leaned back like he owned the place, his feet propped up on my desk. He was scrolling through his phone, looking infuriatingly at ease.
I scowled, stepping inside and gesturing sharply at Stacy. “What is this, Stacy? I specifically said no interruptions.”
“I was just about to tell you before-” she began, but I cut her off with a wave of my hand.
I was not in the mood for excuses. My focus shifted to Luca, who finally decided to look up from his phone.
He had a blank expression on his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off before he could.
“What are you doing here, Luca?” I demanded, my tone sharp
He swung his feet off the desk and sat up straight, a mock grin on his face. “Good to see you too, Asher. It has been quite a while. Yes, I’m good. I hope
you are too?”
I folded my arms across my chest and glared at him. “You didn’t answer the question.” There was a lot going on in my life, and the last thing I needed was
to deal with Luca.
Stacy shifted awkwardly behind me. “Should I-”
“You can leave now, Stacy. Shut the door after you,” he interjected curtly, staring right at me. She hesitated for a moment and glanced at me. I didn’t bat
an eyelid. She looked between the both of us, weighing her options before she lowered her gaze and exited the room.
He reclined on the chair like this was his office. “I’m here to talk to you, Asher. I’ve been trying to for a while, and I couldn’t reach you.”
I let out a humorless laugh. “Maybe that’s because I wanted to remain unreachable. Did you even think of that?”
“Well, too bad,” he replied with a shrug. “Because we are talking-

I opened my mouth to protest, but he cut in, “Whether you like it or not. We are going to talk.”

I leaned on the table, my eyes boring into him. “Okay, fine. You want to talk, fine! Let’s talk about how you deceived my younger sister despite being my
friend.”
He ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily. “Just let it go already, Asher. Janine is an adult, a smart one at that. I couldn’t possibly deceive her. You should know that. She’s only with me because she wants to be with me…”
I shut my eyes and rolled my eyes. “Oh, cut the crap, Luca.”
“What crap? That I love her? You can’t grasp the context of love? Really? Or is it also crap that you love lvy? So much that you’re like this without her…
“This isn’t about Ivy!” I snapped.
“Oh, come on.” He stood and walked around the desk, leaning against it casually. “You’re brooding, snapping at Stacy like she’s the enemy, and holing up in your office like some moody teenager. It’s clearly because of your problems with her. You can fool the whole world, but you can’t fool me! I’m your friend, remember?”
I shot him a glare, but he didn’t flinch. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Don’t I?” he countered, crossing his arms. “You’re not just struggling because you hurt her, you are scared of actually losing her.”
My eyes widened in surprise.
He gave me a knowing look. “She’s friends with Janine. Of course, I know there’s someone else, Dexter. Janine is going to kill me if she finds out I told you anything, but…”
“I’m not worried about Ivy being with another man. That’s not go-”
“Liar,” he said with a smirk, tilting his head. “You’re a terrible liar, Asher. Always have been.”
I clenched my jaw, turning away and walking to the window. “Drop it, Luca.”
