Chapter 110
Chapter 110
Taylor’s POV
Max stumbled into the room, blood smeared across his chin, his eyes darting around like a scared animal boxed into a corner.
My gut twisted. My heart hammered in my chest. Something had happened.

“Max,” I said, keeping my voice steady as I reached for the towel on the counter. “What the hell happened?” I extended a hand to him, looking him over for any bigger wounds other than the bruises on his face.
He snatched the towel from my hand but didn’t answer. Instead, he wiped at the blood, his movements jerky, avoiding my gaze.
“Max,” I pressed, my tone sharpening. “Talk to me. Now.”
“Water,” he muttered, his voice hoarse. “I need water.”
I exhaled sharply, grabbing a glass and pouring him some from the bottle lying around.
He took it without a word, draining it in one go. Still, he wouldn’t look at me.
“What did you do?” I demanded, stepping closer.
His head bowed, his shoulders hunched. For a moment, I thought he’d bolt.
“Max!” My voice cracked like a whip. “Fucking talk to me!” I yelled. “Now!”
“I went to see Ivy,” he mumbled finally. I met his gaze. He looked terrified.
My stomach sank. “You what?”
“She… she invited me over,” he said, his words tumbling out in a rush. “But Asher was there.”
My blood ran cold. “Asher? Max, what did you do?”
He flinched at the edge in my voice, his hands trembling as he set the glass down. “I didn’t know he’d be there. I thought, ought I could talk to her.
Win her back.”
I stared at him, disbelief mingling with anger. “You thought you could win her back? Max, Ivy is over you. She’s been over you for months now! Everyone
can see it. I can see it. I told you from the onset! Of course, she set you up!”
“I didn’t know!” he shouted, but his voice cracked, and his shoulders sagged further. He exhaled and raked his fingers through his hair, causing it to stick out at odd angles.
“What happened, Max?” I demanded, pacing now, running my fingers through my hair in frustration. “What did you tell him? Why did he hit you?”
His eyes clouded with guilt, and he wouldn’t answer.
“Max,” I said, narrowing my eyes. “You’re an even bigger fool than I thought. What did you say to him?”
“I told him…” He hesitated, swallowing hard. “I told him about you.”
The room spun. I froze, the weight of his words crashing into me. “You what?”
“I didn’t mean to!” he stammered. “It just slipped-”
“Max, you reckless idiot!” I shouted and ran to grab a bag, stuffing it with essentials. “Asher could show up here any second! Do you understand what you’ve done?”

“I’m sorry,” he whispered, but I wasn’t listening anymore. My mind was racing, every worst–case scenario flashing before my eyes.
“If you know what’s good for you,” I said, slinging the bag over my shoulder, “you’ll run. Now.”
He stood there, frozen, as I pushed past him and out the door.
The Safe House
The safe house was quiet. Too quiet. The kind of quiet that gave my thoughts room to wander.
The Don sat across from me, his gaze steady but unreadable. “Is everything to your liking?” he asked.
I nodded, though my throat felt dry. “It’s fine.”
He held my gaze. “Is the food to your taste? Are my men-‘
“I said it’s fine,” I blurted out.
”
He leaned back, studying me, then raised his hands in surrender. “If you say so…”
“Any news about me?” I asked curiously. It had been days since I went into hiding.
“No,” he said simply.
I shuddered despite myself. “They’re probably biding their time,” I murmured. “That’s the only reason why the media isn’t swarming with news of what I did to Ivy and Asher.”
The Don’s expression didn’t change. “What are you going to do next?”
His question felt like a jab. My hands curled into fists on the table. “Why?” I snapped. “Tired of accommodating me already?”
He raised a hand, pleading. “That’s not what I meant.”
I leaned back, exhaling sharply. I didn’t want to admit it, but I was running low on cash. And he knew it.
“Do you plan to stay here forever?” he asked, his tone calm but probing.
I didn’t answer.
“If you need a long–term solution,” he continued, “I can help. I know people who can get you out of the country. A remote island, maybe. With time, Asher will move on. He will forget what happened, and he won’t come after you.”
“No.” The word left my lips before I could stop it.
His brow furrowed. “No?”
“I’m not leaving,” I said firmly.
