Chapter 118
Asher’s POV
The streetlights blurred past as I sped down the road, my grip on the steering wheel so tight it ached, my knuckles turning white as my grip hardened.
My mind was a raging storm, nothing made sense in this moment. My vision was blurry, my heart hammered in my chest, deafening my ears. Taylor’s annoying voice replayed in my mind over and over again.
“Choose, Asher. Your love for Ivy or her life.”
I stepped on the brakes so hard, narrowly missing the oncoming car in the other lane. The sirens blaring in the distance meant nothing to me,
moment.
not in this
The way she had said it, like it was a joke, like she was just toying with me, made my stomach twist. I could still hear the amusement in her voice, that sickening, high–pitched tone that let me know she was enjoying this.
This wasn’t just a threat; it was a game to her, a game she enjoyed playing. But to me, it was Ivy’s life.
I swallowed hard, my throat dry. There was no winning with Taylor. If I told her no, she would kill Ivy without hesitation, or those men, Max. I covered my mouth with my hand and rubbed my face, my chest heaving.
If I agreed, the thought was stupid. I couldn’t even think of the alternative. I couldn’t bear to tolerate Taylor, let alone love her like she wanted me to. The moment I laid eyes on her, I’d hurt her, I knew that for sure.
Ivy’s piercing screams haunted me. She had tried her hardest to keep it in, but she couldn’t.
My foot pressed harder on the gas as I made a sharp turn, my tires screeching against the asphalt. I needed help. I needed someone to help me. And the one person I could think of was…
Marcus.
I never really involved my brother in my problems. Our strained relationship had made me rely on outsiders more than I relied on him, but right now, I didn’t have a choice. He was the only person I could think of who could help me figure this out. I needed a plan, and fast. Ivy didn’t have much time.
By the time I drove into the parking lot of Sterling Industries, my pulse was hammering so loud I could barely think. I barely waited for the car to stop before I yanked the door open and rushed into the big building.
The reception area was almost empty. Most of the staff had probably retired for the night, well, of course, except Marcus. That was good, though. The last thing I needed was someone stopping me with unnecessary questions.
I rushed into the elevators, tapping my foot impatiently. Each passing second felt like a lifetime. My nerves were all over the place, I couldn’t stay still.
I stormed straight to Marcus’s office, shoving the door open with so much force that it slammed against the wall.
Marcus, who had been leaning over his desk, jolted in surprise. His sharp eyes snapped up to me, his brows furrowing.
“What the hell-” He cut himself off, straightening up. “Asher?” His voice was laced with disbelief. “What are you doing here?”
My throat tightened, my words stuck for a second./
“I-“I swallowed. “I need your help, Marcus.”
Marcus let out a humorless chuckle, shaking his head. “That’s funny because, as far as remember, you’ve never wanted my help. Even when you desperately needed it.” He leaned against his desk, crossing his arms. “So tell me, little brother, what could possibly be so bad that you’re coming to me
now?”
I clenched my fists, trying to steady myself. This wasn’t the time for his usual smugness.

Chapter 118
“It’s Ivy,” I said, my voice strained. “She’s in danger.”
Marcus’s smirk faded. His arms dropped to his sides as his expression turned serious. “What?”
1 exhaled, the weight of it all pressing down on me.
“Taylor. She called me earlier. She’s threatening to kill Ivy if I don’t… if I don’t choose her?”
A heavy silence settled between us.
Then, from the open door, a voice broke through.
“You’re my brother, Asher,” Janine said, stepping into view, Luca right behind her. “I know when something is wrong. Since you didn’t want to tell us about it, we followed you here.”
