Chapter 13
Asher’s POV
I kept stealing glances at the door where she had walked through, waiting to see her walk out again. The team had been extra friendly because I was sitting comfortably with a front–row view of the shoot area, a fine bottle of unopened champagne in front of me. My jaw dropped when she emerged. Her outfit was a beautiful nude dress that stopped mid–thigh, making her legs look even longer.
Assistants rushed back and forth, adjusting the lighting, fixing props, and setting up the stage.
She glanced at me and smiled. It was the most beautiful sight, making me feel warm inside. When she approached me, I stood up and closed the distance between us. “You look beautiful,” I blurted out as soon as she got closer.
She smiled in response and tucked her hair behind her car. “Taylor is trying to get me to talk to her…”
“Would you like me to do something about her?” I asked. “Say, kick her out of the shoot, for instance?”
She gave me a funny look.
I clutched my chest. “I’m really serious. Everyone likes me here. I think the director would listen to anything I say,” I teased.
She rolled her eyes and glanced at Taylor. “I’d very much like her to stay away from me. Can you make that happen?”
I stared at her in amusement and proceeded to walk toward Taylor. She grabbed my hand and pulled me back, her eyes. widening in surprise. She probably wasn’t expecting me to actually go over to her.
“Where are you going?” she asked, pulling on my hand.
I glanced at her hand around mine, a small smirk on my lips. “You’re extremely clingy, love. I like it.”
She pulled away and shot me a glare.
Instinctively, I slipped my hands around her waist, pulling her close. She was stunned, glancing around nervously. “Everyone is staring at us.”
I shrugged. “We may as well give them a show. They’re going to find out we’re married anyway.” My hands traveled further down her waist before she pulled away, as if just realizing we had an audience. I didn’t miss the flushed look on her face. As she turned around, I realized we really did have an audience. Everyone in the room had been staring at us. There was one pair of eyes that stood out–striking and angry. Taylor. I pulled Ivy close one last time and planted a sloppy kiss on her forehead. “Smash it,” I whispered softly before letting her go.
Ivy bowed her head as she walked toward them.
“Okay, places, people!” the director called.
The first round of the shoot was pictures of the group of girls in similar dresses. Ivy’s shyness disappeared as soon as she began posing for pictures. She was a natural at it. I watched in awe as she shifted through different poses.
I closed the distance between us, my eyes fixated on her the whole time. She was like a single lightbulb in a dark room. It was hard not to notice her. She was the prettiest among the bunch. It hit me in that moment that I had believed this for the longest time. The thought was scary–the hold she had on me.
“Chin up, girls. Give me fierce!” the photographer shouted. “Remember, we’re serving face cards…” He adjusted his lens and took a few clicks. “That’s good, Ivy. I love it!”

I was beaming with pride at that compliment–someone else recognized the effort she was putting in. Maybe I wasn’t borderline obsessed with her. Maybe.
“So, are we going to be seeing more of you at our shoots like this, Mr. Sterling?” her manager asked as she walked up to me.

I stared at Ivy. She had a sultry look on her face, her hands on her hips, her body slightly swayed to the side. It was hot–all of it- her. I didn’t have to think too hard about it. “Yes, Miss Lena.” I wanted to watch her at work every time.
She smiled and leaned closer. “Keep it between us, but I’d also really like you to come often. You have a good effect on the ladies,” she added.
I grinned at her. Maybe that was true, but why was I gawking at Ivy on the whole shoot? There was a sea of ladies, and before, I would have been excited about all of them.
“Next look!” Lena announced.
The girls dispersed, and I walked up to Ivy immediately. “You took smashing that way too seriously,” I teased, handing her my glass of champagne.
She smiled at me, a full–on smile. Her dimples accentuated her pretty expression. I was taken aback. It was such a pure reaction, and it made me feel some sort of way on the inside. “Thank you so much, Asher.”
I nodded. I leaned forward and tapped the bridge of her nose. “Now go on and finish that shoot, or we might actually give them a show.”
There was a collective “awww” in the crowd.
“You look cute together!” someone shouted.
She laughed and hurried off to join the other girls, but I wasn’t joking. Heck! Watching her work had unlocked a new level of hotness I hadn’t known she had before. Now I wanted her even more. I took a large gulp of my champagne and spun around. I felt a pair of eyes on me. I turned around, and Taylor was still staring. She looked away the moment she saw me staring back at her.
I stood there in confusion, wondering what that was all about, until Lena walked up to me with magazines. “Okay, to keep you entertained, here are a few copies of the magazines Ivy has been featured in.”
That was enough to steal my attention. I let her lead me to the sofa, and together we pored over every picture, each one knocking me off the chair. She was breathtaking in all of them. Even more so when she walked through that door again, with a different hairdo and a lacy dress. I had a brilliant idea to get her to play dress–up when we were alone. I immediately felt stiff in my pants at the thought of it. I crossed and uncrossed my legs.
I gawked at her as she strutted past. This time, it was just a shoot for her and Taylor. I stood up and got closer to her. Our eyes locked, and I gave her the most encouraging smile I could muster. She held my gaze for a moment, and it was like a switch had been turned off in her head. She got into character immediately.
“I want a close–up of the two of you,” the photographer explained, stepping closer to them. “Like an arm around each other.” He demonstrated with his hands.
I caught the look Taylor gave Ivy, but Ivy didn’t budge. She leaned closer, pulling Taylor into her arms.
The photographer took a few pictures.
He peered at the photos and then back at them. “Taylor, you’re a bit stiff in these.”
She huffed before reaching toward Ivy. Ivy had an unreadable expression the whole time. And as soon as the shoot was done, she pulled away and walked toward me. Taylor reached out to touch her, but Ivy was gone almost immediately.
