Chapter 21

Asher’s POV

I was standing at the airport just beside the jet when I saw her car come to a halt. She was accompanied by two other vehicles, one in front and one behind. Men in black suits and shades stepped out.

One of them opened her door and helped her out, while the other man rushed to bring out her luggage.

I sucked in a deep breath when she stepped out of the car. I’d always been captivated by her beauty. Her long blonde hair was tied up in a high ponytail. She was wearing a pretty white sundress that stopped mid–thigh, paired with heels that accentuated her long legs. Her blue eyes lit up when she saw me, and although she looked away, I had already caught a glimpse of it.

I turned to see Miles, my assistant, blushing profusely beside me. “She’s gorgeous…” he muttered.

I frowned, then turned to her and back at him in confusion. He seemed to notice and straightened up.

As she approached where we were standing, I pulled her into a warm hug and whispered in her ear, “You’re gorgeous, Ivy.”

It was a pure and innocent compliment, and the reaction it elicited from her made it all worth it. She looked slightly surprised, and her smile widened. “Thank you, Asher,” she replied. She gave me a once–over. “You don’t look too bad yourself.”

“Not too bad? I’ll take it,” I thought. I knew she was holding back for whatever reason, but I would be patient enough to wait for her. I crooked my elbow. “Shall we?”

When the flight took off, I walked up to her and sat across from her. She peered at me from above the glass of champagne she was sipping. I admired her in silence; she looked really elegant.

“How long are you going to stare at me for?” she asked, breaking the silence.

I smiled. “For as long as I can…” She definitely had no idea. I pulled out a magazine from my breast pocket. “I made a really long list of activities I’d like us to do together…”

Her cheeks turned red immediately.

My eyes widened as I slowly broke into a smile. “You, naughty… naughty girl!”

She cupped her mouth. “What did I do?”

“You very well know what you were thinking…” I teased her. “Naughty thoughts.”

She stifled her blush. “No…”

I held her gaze and shrugged. “Whatever you say, Ivy.” I flipped the pages of the magazine. “So I made a list of OUTDOOR activities…”

She giggled, and it was the cutest thing I had seen in a while. I took a moment before I could collect my train of thought. “The first thing is a boat ride, just you and I”

She grabbed the magazine from my hand and peered at it intently. “I’m terrified of the ocean,” she admitted. “I’ve never

been out on a boat before.”

“That is a surprise; your parents do this a lot,” I replied.

She shrugged. “I never went with them,” she smiled. “I used to joke that my parents forgot about me…”

I stared into her eyes and could see the sadness she masked behind a smile. “Well, it’s a good thing you have me then. I have a lot of things planned for our trip. A whole lot…” My eyes raked her body suggestively. “I have a feeling you’re going to enjoy every bit of it.”

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. I smirked. Every word I said was intentional. I had one purpose: to win her over. By the end of our trip, I wanted her to forget everything about her ex, but more importantly, I wanted her to forget all her opinions of me. I wanted her to know that I was willing to drop everything and everyone just to be with her. It was a crazy thought, even to me, but every time I looked into those striking blue eyes, I felt committed to her.

And when she lowered her gaze and her cheeks turned red, the smirk on my face deepened. I loved her innocence, this shyness I didn’t know existed. It made me want to know her on a deeper level, to strip layers off her personality. I wanted to figure out the thoughts going through her mind, to find out the kind of person she was underneath that shyness.

She moved her legs uncomfortably, and without warning, I grabbed them and placed them on my thigh. She yelped in shock and tried to pull away, but my firm hold on her legs kept her in place.

“What are you doing, Asher?” she asked in hushed tones, glancing around.

I chuckled. “Pipe down, Ivy. I haven’t started undressing you.” I held her gaze. “Yet.”

Her eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights. “What?”

I threw my head back and burst into laughter. “You should see the look on your face right now, priceless…” I dipped my hand into my jacket and pulled out a camera, clicking a picture of her before she knew what was happening. I peered at it; the stunned look on her face was even funnier. I burst into laughter. “Okay, heads up! I have a handy camera, and I intend to take pictures of you at all times, every time…”

“Heads up?” she asked. “Really? After you’ve taken the pictures?”
