Chapter 39
Ivy’s Pov
Asher reluctantly let go of me before he marched off. I turned to Marcus, annoyed. “I don’t know what history is there between you two, but I don’t want to be caught up in it,”
I made to walk away, but Marcus grabbed my hand and pulled me back. “I’m sorry,vy. It was not try intention, i’m sorry,” he apologized, his eyes growing softer.
I was quite taken aback; I didn’t expect an apology. “…
“It’s just, Asher and I have had a strained relationship for the longest time. He scratched his brow. “I think he cares for you, and I just follike you’re the only hope I have to get through to my brother, L.
I glanced at Marcus. It was hard to tell if he was being sincere,
“I feel like with you, there’s a chance for us to work things out. This is why I want to be friends with you. I feel like we can get through to him.” He took my hand in his, “I’m sorry that it seems like I’m putting you into a comer; I would never do that intentionally.”
I glanced at Asher. He was looking straight at mo, his eyes accusing, I pulled away from Marcus and smiled politely at him, ‘ll see you around, Marcus. I have to go forward… As I walked closer, Marcus followed me closely behind.
Asher was rounding up his speech at that point, “Sterling Winery is not only going to be my father’s legacy, I want to make it into something I’m proud of” He stole a glance at me.
I plastered a smile on my face. With how he was stealing glances at me, I knew people were bound to notice.
“So, have fun, drink a lot of wine. I mean it, and let the dancing begini Cheers!” He raised a glass of champagne in the air, and soft tunes from the band filled the room.
“Ivy, can I have the pleasure of your first dance?” Marcus asked with a bow.
I opened my mouth to say something, but I couldn’t think of anything. People were looking. I couldn’t accept his dance because of Asher, on the other hand, I couldn’t openly turn down Marcus–we already had an audience.
“Marcus, L
Asher grabbed my hand suddenly. “Don’t worry, Marcus. I got it.” He didn’t wait for a reply and pulled me towards him, Leould barely keep up as he led me to a clear section on the dance floor. He slipped his hands around my waist and pulled me close untill was pressed up against him. My breath caught in my throat. We still hadn’t said a word to each other, not even when our fingers intertwined.
We twirled around, and his hands wandered down to my ass.
I involuntarily shuddered. “Asher
“How do you manage to annoy me and still turn me of at the same time?” he asked in a husky voice.
My cheeks flushed. I didn’t know what to say to that I was thankfull wasn’t looking into his eyes. He leaned closer to the crook of “Do you like Marcus?” he asked all of a sudden.
heck
and inhaled.
It pulled me out of whatever trance I was under from his wandering hands. I frowned and moved away, and he twirled me around. “What do you mean by that, Asher?”
“You tell me, Ivy. Is it Marcus or Max?” he asked. “It’s all too confusing for me!
I pressed my lips together in anger. “You don’t have to dance with me if you don’t want to.” I made to move away, but he pulled me close sharply until my breasts were pressed against his chest.

“Never do that again,” he said sternly, his eyes shining. I didn’t miss the hint of possessiveness in his voice.
I opened my mouth to say something, but he pressed his lips against mine and captured my lips in a deep kiss. I was too stunned to act immediatly How was he acting like a complete jerk one moment and kissing me the next? When he pulled away, his handslightly held the back of my neck.
My checks heated up, and lights flashed in our faces
“Asher, people are staring at us.” I commented.
“I think we’ve made it pretty clear, then, that you’re mine and mine alone,” he replied. “And Marcus could go…”
“Marcus and I have nothing.”
rutin
“Wet, you invited him…”
“Out of courtesy,” Linterjected.
He moved his hand away from around my neck and slipped it around my waist, his hands lightly caressing me. We didn’t say a word to each other, both of us deep in our heads, overwhelmed by our thoughts.
He leaned closer and lightly brushed his lips against my earlobe. “Just to make sure you know, you looked absolutely stunning tonight.”
I bit down on my lower lip. Those were the words i’d been waiting to hear all night, yet instead, we’d gone into an argument, and he had hurled accusations at me. I sighed but didn’t say anything. It was this hot and cold with Asher that unsettled me
There were times he’d stare at me like I was the best thing in his life. Like earlier, when I walked in, and we stared at each other like two star–struck lovers, then an argument, and now this. Now, he was holding me so close, his hands softly caressing my waist, and then he dared, and his hands went lower.
It was like he wanted more and was stopping himself at the same time, it was confusing, all the emotions I was feeling. My body’s response was even more confusing. It didn’t care that we had a large audience. He leaned close and kissed my neck, sucking the skin there, I knew it would leave a hickey. His hands cupped my ass cheeks.
“Asher…“I glanced around nervously. “You realize people can see us, right?”
