We were giggling like two teenage girls as we slid into the limo. The moment I held Janine’s hand while we rushed out of the house togethe was exactly what i needed. Besides Taylor, I didn’t really have other strong female friendships.

Ihad built my whole life around her, in when she was gone, I didn’t have any other friends, i didn’t realize how much had missed it until today. The driver started the engine, and the bodyguards in the car ahead of us polled into motion.

“56” I turned to her with a raised brow, “where are we actually going?”

“Aclub, Janine said with a sly sunile, stretching her legs out. “Obviously”

I laughed, shaking my head. “Of course, it’s a club. Why didn’t I guess?”

“You’ve been cooped up too long it’s time to remind you what fun feels like,” she teased, nudging my shoulder,

After a while, Janine turned to me with a mischievous glint in her eye. “You and my brother looked pretty cozy back there, huh? What’s happening between you two?” She was smiling hard.

I bit my lip, trying to keep the smile from breaking free. “He’s… well, things are a lot better between us with each passing day,” I answered simply. There were still a lot of things I was confused about, my feelings where it concerned Asher, and also, we still had to talk.

She leaned back, studying me for a moment before a softer expression crossed her face. “You know, I’ve only known you for a short while, but I can tell you make him happy. Like, really happy. I’ve never seen him like this before. And he looks like he cares so deeply for you. I’m looking at my brother right now, and he’s not his usual obnoxious sel!”

Janine steppelt out first, turning back to wink at me. “Let’s make some’memories, hyr

Haughed, shaking off the weight of our earlier conversation. We linked fingers and rode confidently through the sea of dase

“Now this is what I needed, Janine said with a grin, adjusting the strap of her silver dress as we approached the inped off VIP section.

The bouncer nudded us through without a second glance, and soon we were surrounded by plith seating and crystal–clear views of the dance floor below it was a world apart, exclusive and luminious.

When I glanced at Janine, she was subtly looking around, as if searching for something or someone. I followed her gaze, and then I saw him, Luci, Asher’s friend.

Janine broke into a wide smile and waved at him excitedly.

He was leaning casually against the back of a black leather sofa, wearing a perfectly tailored blazer and an open–collared shirt. His eyes caught ours almost instantly, a flicker of recognition sparking in his gaze.

“Well, well,” Luca said smoothly as he approached, his lips curving into a smile. “Hello, Janine…

They stared at each other for a moment, and then she pulled him into a hug. Luca’s arms wrapped tightly around her,

“You know where I was all this time, and you didn’t come to see me,” Janine replied in a hushed whisper.

I stood in the corner, doing everything I could not to stare at them. It felt like I was watching something I shouldn’t be.

Janine turned to look at me, her eyes widening apologetically. “Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry, Ivy. This is Luca…”

“We’ve met before, he explained. “Aher Asher introduced us–very briefly, I might add.”

Janine grinned widely and tucked her hair behind her ear. “Well, isn’t that typical Asher?” She grabbed Luca’s upper arm.

I noticed the look they shared.

“Luca, this is my sister–in–law,” she said, holding my gaze. “We’ve become really good friends in the short time I’ve known her. I plucked her out of Asher’s arms tonight, literally.” She giggled.

He smiled at her, “I can vividly picture that”

Janine cupped her mouth to stifle her gggles.

I narrowed my eyes at her, a hint of a smile on my lips. “Okay, tone it down, love,” it was obvious there was something between them.

I watched them make small talk–the glances they shared, and how Janine didn’t pass up a chance to

touch him.

Luca glanced at me, then back at her. “I’m sorry, forgive my manners. I didn’t get you drinks.” He turned around to leave. “Give me a moment.”

As soon as he walked away, I pulled Janine to the side. “What was that about?” I asked in a teasing voice.

“What?” she asked, feigning confusion

I smiled. “You two are a lot cozy,” I threw her words back at her and playfully nudged her.

She shut her eyes and tried to hide from “Is it that obvious?” her voice came back muffled.
