Chapter 13
Donovan and Kenny came up as well, their faces a mix of guilt and relief.
Rylan stood off to the side, eyes locked on Gigi. He had so much to say but didn’t know where to start.
He knew it was their fault she had suffered so much, and the last thing he wanted was to make things worse by coming back into her life.
Gigi scrunched up her brows. Their sudden change in attitude threw her off.
With a hard look on her face, she shoved them away. “Did you all get the wrong person? Take a good look. I’m Gigi, not your precious Catherine.”
Those words cut deep, as if their hearts were being torn apart.
Kenny couldn’t hold back anymore. He grabbed her hand and explained what they had learned.
They had already found out about all the awful things Catherine had done and everything Gigi had been through. They also realized the one who truly deserved their love and care wasn’t Catherine–it was Gigi, the one who actually cared about them.
Kenny’s words were heavy with guilt, his eyes red and brimming with tears. But Gigi just looked at them like they were strangers.
She indifferently chuckled. “Now that you’ve finally seen Catherine’s true colors, you suddenly remembered I’m your daughter? Isn’t it a little too late?”
Meredith broke down in tears the moment she heard those words. She stepped up and tried to grab Gigi’s hand. “I’m sorry, Gigi. I’ve realized my mistake. You’re my daughter. I can’t lose you.”
Gigi avoided Meredith’s hand and shook her head. “Things can never go back to the way they were. I’ve found a new life and a new family here.”
Frowning, Donovan looked pained and deeply regretful. “I failed you, Gigi. I was fooled by Catherine and didn’t realize what you were going through. Can you give me another chance?”
Gigi stared at Donovan, her emotions all over the place. She used to dream of hearing those words from Donovan, but now, it didn’t matter anymore. “Some wounds never really heal. I just want peace in my life now.”
Kenny also came forward. “I wasn’t the brother you deserved, Gigi. I shouldn’t have backed Catherine up and helped her pick on you. Please come home with us. I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
Gigi didn’t budge. “Let the past stay in the past. I’ve started a new life, and I’m not going back.”
Rylan couldn’t bear to lose Gigi and anxiously said, “I know I was unbelievably wrong, Gigi. But my love for you has never changed Give me one chance. I’ll prove it with the rest of my life.”
Gigi snickered “Your love means nothing, Rylan. All you ever did was use me to keep Catherine safe. I’m not blind anymore.” The Hart family lowered their heads in shame after hearing Gigi’s words. They knew earning her forgiveness wouldn’t be easy.
