Chapter 17
Meanwhile, the Hart family and Rylan were racking their brains, doing whatever they could to earn Gigi’s forgiveness.
Donovan and Meredith poured their guilt into lengthy handwritten letters each day, reminiscing about Gigi’s childhood and how sorry they were. They then had people send the letters to the Carson residence.
Kenny did his homework on everything Gigi liked, picking out thoughtful and expensive gifts. Then, he would pile them up at the Carson residence’s doorstep, hoping she would come around.
Rylan tapped into every connection he had, collecting rare and exotic gifts from across the globe. Each one was sent with a letter spilling his heart out–love, guilt, and everything.
None of it got through to Gigi. She ignored the letters and gifts, leaving them untouched.
She had built up walls from everything she had been through. Flashy gifts and pretty words didn’t move her anymore. She was thriving in her new life with the Carson family.
They showed her so much love and care that she slowly began to heal, but that didn’t mean she was ready to forgive the Hart family or Rylan just like that.
Out of the blue, Gigi got a letter from Rylan saying he wanted to see her. She stared at the letter, wrestling with herself for a long time. In the end, she decided to go and end everything once and for all.
She slipped into a simple dress, tossed her hair up, added a touch of makeup, and got ready to face it all with quiet resolve.
When she got to the abandoned warehouse, a rotting stench hit her. The dim, flickering lights and looming shadows made her skin crawl.
Gigi cautiously stepped into the warehouse, staying on high alert as her eyes darted around the room.
A silhouette suddenly appeared from the corner. Gigi took a closer look and realized it was Catherine, who looked homeless.
Gigi’s anger flared up. “Seriously? I took everything from you? You’re the one who has been taking from me since we were kids. You turned me into a walking blood bank and made my life a living nightmare.”
As Gigi finished her sentence, Catherine whipped out a spray and blasted it in her face. She barely had time to react before everything went dark.
When she came to, she found herself completely tied up, and Catherine had a knife pressed against her throat. “I’ve called the Hart and the Carson families over. Let’s see just how much they really care about you now.”
A moment later, footsteps approached from outside the warehouse. The Carson family was the first to arrive.
Wesley’s eyes turned bloodshot the second he saw Gigi being held as a hostage. He spat, “Let her go, Catherine! If you lay a finger on her, I’ll destroy you.”
Anthony and Julia were both terrified and furious. Julia’s voice trembled as she cried out, “You monster! What did Gigi ever do to you to deserve this?”
