I was singing in the shower when I heard the door slam shut. The sound made me jump.

He was back.

My heartbeat tripped over itself as I fumbled to rinse off the soap. I hurried, nearly slipping on the tiles. I didn’t know why I was panicking. It was his house, after all. However, I didn’t want to see him after everything that went down at the wedding.

I twisted off the shower knob, grabbed my robe, and wrapped it around myself. Maybe if I moved fast enough, I could lock the bedroom door before he came in.

However, the moment I stepped out, my plan vanished.

He was already there.

I froze in my tracks, hair dripping down my back, a towel hung on my neck. The scent of soap and steam clung to me, but his presence overpowered it.

I looked away. What are you doing here?

This is

my

house.”

I swallowed. No, I meantin this room.”

You don’t even sleep here.”

The words slipped out before I could stop them.

He didn’t answer right away. The air between us thickened, and the only sound was the faint dripping of water from my hair onto the floor. Then, finally, he spoke.

I was waiting,he said quietly.

For what?I asked.

He didn’t reply. Instead, he lifted something from the bed beside hima large box wrapped in bakery paper, the scent of chocolate filling the room a second later. My eyes widened before I

could hide it.

It was a cake.

I wonder why,I muttered, crossing my arms, water still dripping onto the floor. He ignored the jab, like he always did when he didn’t want to argue.

He stood up.

I instinctively took a step back, but he caught my wrist before I could move farther. His grip wasn’t harsh like the strange man’s I met a few moments ago.

Abel,I said softly.

The cake was forgotten on the table now, his focus entirely on me. Without saying a word, he guided me toward the bed and sat down first, pulling me gently down so I was sitting on his lap.

What are you doing?I breathed out. My robe slipped slightly at my shoulder, and I reached up to fix it, but he caught the towel draped around my neck before I could move.

Why were you in such a rush?he asked. I could feel his breath against my ear, so I pursed my lips to stop myself from making a noise.

My words tangled on my tongue. II just didn’t want you to see me.”

He interrupted softly, You’re so wet.

I froze, my heart stumbling at the words. Then I realized what he meant. My hair was still dripping all over him. I could feel the water soaking through his shirt. Heat climbed up my neck. Goodness, why did I think about it like that? Sorry, I’ll dry it,” I quickly said.

But before I could pull away, he brought the towel up himself and began gently rubbing it through my hair. The motion caught me off guard.

His touch wasn’t rough like I expected. It was careful and patient, like he was afraid of breaking something fragile. The towel moved in slow circles, and with each pass, the tension in my shoulders loosened just a little.

We sat there in comfortable silence. When he finished drying my hair, he paused. For a second, I thought he would let go, stand up, and walk away like always. But his hand stayed where it was, his thumb brushing a damp strand away from my cheek.

I leaned into the touch before I could stop myself.

It was a tiny motion, but it felt like a confession.

I still did not forgive him. But this felt good.

I ate the chocolate cake happily while Abel sat across from me, just watching. His elbows rested on his knees, cyes fixed on me. It should’ve been uncomfortable, but for some reason, it wasn’t.

I cut another piece with my fork and offered it to his mouth. Do you want some?I asked without thinking.

Then I rememberedhe didn’t like sweet things. I started to pull the fork back, embarrassed.

But then, he leaned forward, caught my wrist gently, and took the bite right from the fork.

He didn’t look away, not once, not even as he chewed. Then, slowly, he ran his tongue over his lips.

The motion was so simple, but it made my heart race too fast. Heat crawled up my before I could stop it.

Abel,I said quietly, looking anywhere but at him.

It tastes good,he said finally.

cheeks

I nodded, forcing out a small laugh. Yeah.” My fingers tightened around the fork. Thanks for buying it for me.
