Chapter 356 Redemption
LUNA
I pursed my lips. I thought I wouldn’t see them here during this visit, but of course, they have to pop out of nowhere, didn’t they? The universe probably couldn’t resist giving me one last test before finally letting me breathe freely. They looked miserable though-and at least that was a redeeming factor. Queenie’s once glossy hair was unbrushed and dull, tied in a lazy bun that looked nothing like the flawless style she used to flaunt. Princess had swollen eyes, red- rimmed and puffy, and it seemed like she had been crying non-stop.
I would have felt bad. However, this was Princess we were talking about. So no, I didn’t feel bad. Not even an ounce.
I tapped Tony’s shoulder gently. “It’s okay,” I said under my breath. He turned to me, brows furrowed, protective as always. His body stiffened, appearing hesitant; however, I smiled at him, and after a brief moment, he moved aside.
I stepped forward. I could already see Queenie’s muscles tense, ready to strike. It was muscle memory at this point-the same movement she used to make whenever she wanted to “put me in my place.” However this time, I was ready.
The second her hand darted forward, I caught her wrist midair. My fingers wrapped around her arm. The sound of skin slapping against skin echoed faintly, and for a moment, she froze.
“This again?” I said quietly, meeting her glare head-on. “You still haven’t learned your lesson, have you?”
She tried to pull away, but my grip tightened. Her skin was cold and clammy. Her bravado all cracked at that moment. I could see it. The fear. The disbelief that I wasn’t the same Luna she
used to break down behind closed doors.
“This had happened way too many times for me to not see it coming,” I said softly, my voice carrying through the room. “But I’m done pretending I can’t fight back.”
For a brief second, Princess’ lip trembled. “Luna, wait—” she started, her voice hoarse, but I didn’t let her finish.
I looked around, searching instinctively for Abel, half-expecting him to appear at the door. But he wasn’t there-and I realized, I didn’t need him for this. He’d already done enough. He helped me see myself again and reminded me that I wasn’t powerless. I had spent years holding back because I thought I had too much to lose. However, the tables had turned. I had everything to gain.
Queenie sneered, “You think because he’s with you now, you’re above us?”
I tilted my head, still holding her wrist. “No,” I said, releasing her hand. “I’m not above anyone. I just finally remembered who I am.”
And then I grabbed the milkshake sitting on the nearest table and without hesitation, I threw it straight at their faces.
The splatter was glorious. The entire diner erupted into a collective gasp, followed by a stunned silence. Then, slowly, I heard a snicker-Marcel, trying and failing to hide her amusement. Tony didn’t even bother; he burst out laughing.
Queenie blinked rapidly, her makeup streaking down her cheek. Her lips trembled as though searching for words to hurl back, but there was nothing left for her to say.
“You know,” I said, stepping closer, lowering my voice so only they could hear. “Everything you two ever had? The money, the power, the lies-it was all borrowed. Every bit of it came from stepping on people like me. Here’s the truth, though. Borrowed things always have to be returned.”
Princess looked down, tears spilling freely again.
I leaned closer. “I hope you enjoy this little taste of reality,” I whispered. “Because it’s all you’re going to get from me.”
When I turned my back to them, the diner came alive again with hushed whispers and muffled laughter. My hands were trembling-but not from fear. It was from adrenaline and liberation.
I walked back to where Tony and Marcel stood. Marcel raised her glass to toast me. “Remind me never to mess with you,” she said, grinning.
I smiled faintly, still catching my breath. My pulse raced in my ears, and yet there was an odd calm in my chest.
I glanced once more toward the door, and my heart fluttered in spite of everything. Abel still wasn’t there, but I could feel him in my thoughts. I didn’t need him to rescue me this time, but I knew when he came back, I’d tell him everything.
“Now go,” I said firmly to the two of them. “Before I make a bigger scene. And don’t bother coming near me again. I’m serious about a restraining order. You two have haunted me long enough.”
Princess flinched. Queenie’s eyes narrowed, but even she didn’t have the guts to fight back anymore. They exchanged a quick, panicked look-two cornered predators realizing the prey they once hunted wasn’t prey anymore.
Then, wordlessly, they turned and stumbled toward the door. The heels that once clicked with confidence now scraped awkwardly against the floor. The bell above the diner door chimed as they pushed it open, heads bowed, leaving behind the sticky trail of their humiliation.
