Lily protected her face and said, “Elaine, I didn’t mean to hurt you. Clement and I genuinely love each. other. I’d never set out to break up your family. I’ve seen how happy you all are, and Clement is such a wonderful man.

“I just wanted to be a part of your family. Elaine, I won’t make Clement divorce you, and I won’t take him away from you.”
