Aiden’s brows knitted in an evident frown of perplexity. "Yours?"
Making a face of obviousness, Arwen shrugged. "Why would I go and read someone else’s diary?" She did not have that hobby. "You sure aren’t very good at assumptions. So don’t try it next time. Ask me, instead."
"People always don’t intend to answer when asked," he spoke back almost immediately. His tone carried the hint of a grudge.
Arwen looked at him and opened her mouth to speak ... but on a second thought, realized she was partly responsible. After all, he had asked about it, but she hadn’t explained it to him.
Pressing her lips in a thin line, she nodded, "Of course," she said, continuing, "People sometimes do not reveal everything. But they wouldn’t mind clearing a few doubts —like the one you had."
Aiden’s gaze pressed on hers, but she didn’t falter. Instead, she eyed him the same.
However, soon after, she could hold back a chuckle. Looking away from him, she laughed, shaking her head. "Like truly?" she asked amidst her laughter. "Out of everything in this world, you got jealous of a ... diary? Who gets jealous of that?"
"I do," he said without taking any effort to defend himself.
At his firm admission, Arwen paused and looked at him. "You do?"
He hummed and nodded. "Mhm–hm~ I am not just jealous of a diary, but of everything that takes your attention off me." It was a confession, and he didn’t mind saying it loud and clear.
She stared at him, unblinking, pausing at his daringness that easily made her standards in men rise. Her gaze warmed toward him, and a soft hue of blush crept up her cheeks.
"I don’t mean to objectify you, Moon," he said, his voice deep with a raw emotion. "But you are mine. My wife. I don’t like sharing your attention with anything or anyone."
Arwen watched him, for a moment letting his words sink into her bones. His words don’t just feel surreal ... it felt something more —a clue to the mystery that she was yet to uncover.
Though the clue felt vague, she didn’t ask him to explain to her why and since when. Instead, she smiled at him, reaching to hold his hands and say, "You will never have to share me with anyone. The day I signed my name next to yours, you said you just didn’t sign your marriage certificate —you signed yourself to me. I did the same."
Her smile deepened, and she looked down at their hands before glancing back up at him. "So, that means you would never have to share me with anyone. I will stay yours ... always."
’Always’ was a big promise. But at that moment, she was sure she was willing to give that to him.
A soft, warm silence settled between them. And for a moment, they didn’t want to break it.
With that, she already grabbed her phone to dial Emyr’s number. Walking away, she spoke through the line.
"Sponge bath?"
She turned to look back at him and nodded. "Of course, sponge bath. You have sweated a lot last night. I am sure you would like to get freshened up. And Dr. Clark has said to prefer a sponge bath for at least today."
Aiden nodded to her, and Arwen’s brows arched a little in suspicion. But she didn’t say anything. She simply walked into the bathroom to bring out the basin and the towels.
"You are still sitting there like that?" she asked, slightly confused. "Take off your clothes. Come on!" she said, walking close to the side of the bed before placing the table on the side.
Aiden watched her, and his lips tugged slightly up in a smirk. "I thought you would love taking them off."
"Of course, I will lo —" Arwen didn’t realize what he said until she reached halfway through her own words. When she grasped, she turned to him and eyed him, narrowing her gaze. "You —"
"I am weak," Aiden said, almost immediately, "and aren’t you playing the role of a caring wife. I thought you would love to help me out. Wouldn’t you?"
She stared at him with some real disbelief. "How did I never see you have this side as well, Mr. Winslow?" Her words came through the grit of her teeth, but anyway, she leaned down to unbutton his shirt.
