Arwen watched him closely, noting everything that his expression was trying to express and everything that it was struggling to hide.
She didn’t rush him; rather, she let him have his time.
But even after a good time, his struggle remained. Arwen thought to give him an easy way.
"Mr. Jones, an early celebration brings death," she said, adding, "and too much stress makes you age. So, don’t stress out too early. Your silver hair might look good, but if the wrinkles increase on your face, it might scare the kids around."
Mr. Jones didn’t understand. But something about Arwen eased him. "Madam, I —"
"I was about to call you, but fortunately you appeared right in time," Arwen spoke again, already turning to look back at the desk and several other files that were kept there. "The study is Aiden’s private place. I know when the maids come to clean it up, you are careful. But apart from the maids, even other people at the house aren’t allowed here. So, note that from the next time, no one enters here."
Mr. Jones furrowed his brows and nodded. "I will be more careful, Madam." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Arwen glanced back at him and smiled. "Then that’s all," she said, taking her diary back in her hand. "I will return to my room and get freshened up."
And with that, she turned to walk out of the room. Mr. Jones stepped a step aside to give her the way. But just as she reached the door, she paused and turned to look back over her shoulder.
"Mr. Jones, remember what I told you. Don’t let this slip to Aiden."
And with that reminder, she didn’t stay and left.
Mr. Jones watched her. After knowing what Ms. Martin was trying to do, he should be concerned. But for some reason, the ease in the lady’s attitude earlier calmed him. Like she was assuring him that there was nothing to worry about.
But how could he not worry when he could clearly sense what the young lady Martin was up to?
Meanwhile, after leaving the study, Arwen returned to her room. Her demeanour relaxed. She looked at the diary she had in her hand and then walked to the closet.
Keeping it in her wardrobe, she stepped back only to get caught by her own reflection in the mirror on the side.
She turned and walked closer to look.
This wasn’t her first time looking at herself in the mirror. But today, her gaze was noting the detail she never cared to notice before. Her eyes trailed to look at her hair before noting the colour of her eyes.
Her eyes looked black, but on a closer look, one could see the hue of deep grey in them.
She remembered her eyes had changed its shade as she had grown an adult.
"Similar?" she muttered under her breath, but then a slow smirk lifted her lips up. "Maybe. But I am intrigued to see how you prove it."
She let her eyes linger on her reflection for a long moment before she heard the door of the room opening.
Knowing who it could be, she turned around and walked out of the closet. And right as she expected, Aiden stepped inside the room with his suit jacket draped on his arm.
"You are back?" she greeted with a smile before walking towards him to take his jacket from him. Keeping it on the couch nearby, she wrapped her arms around his neck, before tipping up on her toes and pressing her lips against his in a quick kiss.
