When Claire caught me watching her, she shot me a cold, mocking smile.
Garrison was glued to his phone, completely missing the silent tension between us.
Out of nowhere, Claire spoke up. “Garrison, when we get married, everyone from your family will show up, right?”
“Yeah, pretty much everyone will be there.”
“But I noticed someone missing from the guest list. Shouldn’t we invite him too?”
Garrison immediately looked up, staring straight ahead. Was she talking about me?
He turned to Claire, a bit thrown. “Who are you talking about? Don’t tell me you mean Lambert.”
Claire’s face stayed perfectly calm. “He’s still part of your family, isn’t he?”
“He is, but he left on his own. Besides, you know what happened with him.”
“If Lambert comes, it’s all going to be important people. I’m worried he’ll end up embarrassing us.”
They talked about me like I wasn’t even there, even though I was sitting right in front of them.
Claire gave a little cold laugh and glanced at me. “We’re not the ones who messed up, he is. If anyone gets embarrassed, it’s on him.”
Garrison paused for a while, then finally said, “Alright, whatever you want.”
I knew Garrison never wanted me at that wedding. If Claire wanted me there, it was only so she could humiliate me. If that was really her plan, then her hatred for me ran deep. Maybe deeper than I thought.
That idea actually seemed to make Garrison secretly happy.
“Claire, remember we talked about going to the resort? Why don’t we go today? We’re free tomorrow anyway.”
