You are lying!”
I shot up and snatched that envelope from his hand, my body was rocked by the sheer force of shock.
Blinking rapidly, I tried to read the report. Felix’s claim was shining as the morning sun there.
“99.9 percent matched DNA!”
My hand flew to my face, covering my mouth in a reflexive gesture, I took a step back.
“No!
It can’t be the truth!”
Luckily, Bright and Henry came on time with Jane’s breakfast. They took us out to keep my daughter safe from this drama.
“Jane is sleeping. Can’t you be more considerate, Felix?”
Bright hissed at Felix, but he didn’t mind it, smiling victoriously.
“Oops!
I was so excited that it didn’t cross my mind. But I am Jane’s real father, she must know this truth.”
Bright called off his bluff, asking him to wait.
“We have sent the samples to the other laboratories for DNA tests as well. Let all the reports come, then we will draw conclusions after matching their results.”
“You don’t trust me?”
Felix gasped, pointing his finger at Bright.
“You guys think that I will make a fake report to steal someone else’s child? How can you accuse me like this?”
Felix was dejected to learn about our master stroke. Henry handed him the report and spoke curtly.
“After everything you have done, we can’t expect any good from you, Felix. You aren’t a trustworthy person to begin
with.”
Felix argued with Henry to prove his pure intentions, but the ringtone of the cell phones halted him in his tracks. Henry and Bright’s mobiles rang at once. They both picked up the calls and looked at each other, activating a red alert in my mind.

I could see the defeat written in bold letters on their faces as they silently heard the other person on the phone. My breathing hitched, caught in my throat as I stared at them wide–eyed, every passing second exhausted my patience. Tormented by the silence, I waited for that call to end.
Henry sighed and glanced at his cell phone’s screen before lowering his head.
“What was it?” Although I was mildly aware of Henry’s response, I questioned him, grabbing his coat tightly.
“I don’t know how…but…”
