Wendy’s mind flashed back to Natalie’s warning: in less than a year, she and her children would all be destroyed.
It had to be true.
Joanna and Yvonne had known each other since they were kids. Joanna knew exactly what kind of person Yvonne was. If she truly cared about Jerome, how could she let him marry a girl like this?
Wendy’s gaze fell coldly on Yvonne’s stomach. “Yvonne, are you sure the child you’re carrying is Jerome’s? You know how you like to party…”
“Mom, how can you say that? Of course, the baby is mine! We’ve been together for a while,” Jerome interrupted angrily. How could his mother doubt his woman?
Yvonne leaned against Jerome, looking hurt. “Jerome and I are in love. Why would you doubt me like this?”
Wendy frowned but said nothing more.
Joanna seized the opportunity. “Mom, Yvonne may like to have fun, but what young person doesn't these days? She and Jerome have been together for a long time. You can't just accuse her like that, especially when she’s pregnant with his child.”
Wendy lowered her gaze, her eyes cold. Her eldest son was stubborn; he wouldn’t listen to anything she said. “So, when are you planning to get married?”
If she couldn’t persuade him, she wouldn’t try. If a painful lesson was what it took for him to grow up, then so be it.
Seeing his mother give in, Jerome looked at Yvonne, his excitement palpable. “Mom, my race is coming up soon. We’ll have the wedding right after.” He then turned to Yvonne, his eyes shining. “Yvonne, what do you think?”
“Whatever you want,” she replied with a gentle smile.
“Mom, after my race, we’ll pick a date and go to Yvonne’s family to formally propose.” Marrying Yvonne was all he had ever dreamed of.
As soon as Jerome was in the kitchen, Joanna whispered, “Idiot.”
Yvonne smirked. “The dumber he is, the easier he is to use, don’t you think?”
“Hehe…” Joanna’s laugh was eerie. Yes, the dumber, the better.
Jerome returned with a plate of fruit and personally peeled an orange for Yvonne.
She stayed until Nathan came home, greeting him before she left.
Outside, not too far away, Natalie’s car was parked. She saw Jerome’s car drive Yvonne home. So, Yvonne had come tonight to tell Jerome she was pregnant. He was smiling like a child, completely oblivious to the fact that he was already being cheated on.
