Joanna quickly returned with her laptop. Sebastian handed her the USB drive, and she plugged it in and clicked open the file for everyone to see.
The video showed Natalie in the kitchen. She was stirring a pot of soup. When it seemed ready, she knelt down, pulled a small packet of powder from a low cabinet, and sprinkled it into the pot. The next clip showed Natalie serving the soup to Mrs. Griffith.
Wendy squinted at the screen. The video was clearly shot on a phone and wasn't high-definition, but it looked damningly real.
Mrs. Griffith was Sebastian's weak spot. Though she had been cold to him because of his father's actions, she was still the mother he respected. Joanna knew this and had played her card perfectly.
As Sebastian’s expression grew darker and darker, Joanna couldn’t hide a flash of triumph. Sebastian didn't see it, but Wendy did. Joanna was framing Natalie again. That look of malicious glee made Wendy want to slap her across the face. She would, one day. She would make her pay.
“Hmph! Natalie is truly vicious,” Wendy exclaimed, slamming her hand on the table. “Sebastian, you must divorce her. The agreement is already signed. I’ll make sure Natalie is at the city hall first thing tomorrow morning to get the certificate.” Her goal was to get her daughter away from this man, and she knew Sebastian would fall for Joanna’s fabricated evidence.
Joanna was ecstatic. Wendy was being the perfect accomplice.
“Sebastian,” Joanna said in a sorrowful, dramatic tone, “I had no idea Natalie could be so evil. She went to great lengths to force her way into your life, even driving me away so she could marry you. She told everyone I wasn’t a real Scott, just an adopted daughter, and that my birth was something I could never change.”
“She was foolish before, refusing all the divorce papers you gave her. She must have finally realized that no matter how good she was to you, she’d never win your affection.”
“The difference between being loved and not is crystal clear. Joanna does nothing, and you spoil her like a princess you keep hidden away.” The words dripped with insinuation—a secret mistress.
Wendy pressed on. “Meanwhile, Natalie works like a slave for you, and you treat her like a free maid. Joanna sleeps in every morning, does whatever she pleases, excels in her studies, and receives a generous allowance from you. She’s living on cloud nine.”
“And what is Natalie? She’s up at six every morning to cook for you and your mother. After watching you leave for work, she has to care for your mother. You hate anyone touching your things, so she personally irons every single one of your shirts. She spends ages picking out gifts for you to bring to banquets and waits up for you late into the night.
