Luna wrenched the elevator doors open and shoved Jerome inside. “Idiot. Get lost!”
“Aargh!” Jerome howled in fury, humiliated at being manhandled by a slip of a girl.
Luna turned and walked away, leaving him with nothing but the sight of her retreating back.
…
At the hospital, Joanna waited. And waited. The feigned weakness from her “suicide attempt” was beginning to wear off, but Sebastian still hadn’t shown up.
She was getting impatient. If he didn’t arrive soon, her wound would be completely healed.
Nathan looked anxious. “This isn’t right. I called him. Let’s just wait a little longer. He’s probably busy at the office.”
Joanna’s expression froze, her face turning ashen. A flicker of rage sparked in her eyes.
Was he really just busy with work? In the past, whenever she was hurt, Sebastian would drop everything and rush to her side.
A terrible premonition settled in her stomach. “Dad, call Sebastian again.”
Nathan hesitated. He didn’t have the nerve to call Sebastian directly; he could only go through Sean. As he turned to make the call, he realized Wendy hadn’t arrived either.
Is the company really in trouble? He hasn’t heard anything about a crisis.
He made a mental note to ask Wendy’s other assistant, who was one of his moles.
“No, Sebastian, that’s not fair,” he sputtered, growing desperate. “We never demanded anything. The business deals, the allowance—that was all your choice. All we’re asking is for you to come see Joanna. She can be immature, but can’t you find it in your heart to forgive her? Have you forgotten how much you used to love her?”
This was not going according to plan. Just when he was on the verge of success, he couldn’t afford for Sebastian to back out.
“Sebastian, I know you don’t love Natalie. Everyone can see that Joanna is the one you love, the one you’re meant to marry. Natalie has done so many terrible things. Joanna and Jerome were just trying to teach her a lesson before she completely destroyed the Scott family’s reputation.”
“I heard that since she left you, she’s been seeing a different man every day. The woman has no shame.”
“Hello…? Hello?” Before Nathan could finish, the line went dead.
Frustrated, Nathan stormed back into the hospital room. He glared down at Joanna, his face dark. “Joanna, what did you do to piss Sebastian off? He said he made things clear last time and that he’s done with you. What the hell happened?”
