Inside the police station, while waiting to see Marshall, a thought suddenly struck Natalie.
“Luna, a divorce agreement just needs both signatures to be valid, right? There’s no time limit, is there? Since I’m the one leaving with nothing, there are no assets to fight over. So if I get my hands on that agreement, I can just file it with the court, can’t I?”
She had just stumbled upon a way out.
Luna said, “What are you thinking? Both parties have to be present for the divorce to be finalized.”
A sly grin spread across Natalie’s face. “I can work around that. Once I have the agreement, I can just hire someone to act as his legal representative.”
She felt a giddy sense of relief. Why hadn’t she thought of such a simple solution before?
Luna just wanted to ask who on earth would dare to act as Sebastian’s representative.
Outside the door, Sebastian froze. Sean stifled a laugh. Natalie was so desperate to divorce the boss she was plotting to steal legal documents. It seemed she was truly done with him. The boss was really in for it this time—dumped again.
“It’s settled then, Luna,” Natalie declared, a smile lighting up her eyes. “When we get back, I’ll find a way to get that divorce agreement.” The thought made her feel weightless.
Luna’s mouth twitched. “Ms. Sanders, I heard Sebastian offered you divorce papers countless times before. Why didn’t you sign them then?”
He remained rooted to the spot, not moving an inch. Sean stood beside him, holding his breath. How lucky was he to have earned Natalie’s trust?
They waited outside until Natalie and Luna had gone in to see Marshall. Only then did they enter.
Sean glanced at Sebastian’s rigid back. He hadn’t wanted to come, but now he understood why Sebastian had insisted on handling this personally. He knew that if Marshall was in trouble, Natalie would come to help. And he had been right.
Marshall was surprised to see Natalie. He was perched on a stool, looking as relaxed as if he were a guest, not a suspect. “Natalie,” he said with a smile in his voice, “I didn’t expect you to be the one to show up.”
