His favorite liquor was sitting inside the closet, a half-empty glass beside it. He looked again. It was still there.
Nathan was on the verge of a breakdown. He quickly hid the bottle and glass, terrified Wendy might see it. A deep fear settled in his heart, so intense that the flesh on his face trembled. He suspected he was sick—gravely sick.
...
Sebastian returned to his office across the street.
Sean informed him that both the receptionist and Verna were gone. The design department now needed a new director.
The memory of the fierce hatred radiating from Natalie made Sebastian feel an uncharacteristic unease. He slouched in his office chair, the sunlight filtering through the blinds and casting a warm glow on his impossibly handsome face.
Sean stood by silently. This star-crossed pair, after everything that had happened, would likely never be together again.
Just as Sean was thinking this, he heard Sebastian’s cold voice. “Have you found that man?”
Sean shook his head. “President, there are over twenty hotels in Yaro under that chain. I’m still checking them one by one.”
Sebastian frowned. Joanna was meticulous; it wouldn’t be easy to find him. He waved his hand, dismissing Sean.
“Jerome, Verna confessed. She said you sent her the photos. Why is it that when it comes to you, you can’t admit to anything?”
Sebastian ended the call abruptly. He had no right to judge. In the past, he had seen evidence with his own eyes, but a single word from Joanna was enough to make him disbelieve Natalie.
He threw his phone down, his gaze dark as he stared out the window.
...
With her designs stolen, Natalie worked day and night for three days, sketching furiously in her office. Marshall invited her to the triennial car race, but she was too busy to go. His call did, however, jog her memory of events from her past life. She had Luna sign up for the race to keep an eye on Joanna.
