Marshall gasped when he saw the photo of the wreck. He turned to Queena and bowed deeply three times. "Queena, thank you. You and Natalie are saviors to the Spencer family."
"Marshall, don't say that," Natalie said with a smile. "We're friends. We're happy we could help." A favor done is a friendship earned.
Mrs. Spencer Sr. was overjoyed that her son had escaped death. "Queena, Natalie, the doors of the Spencer family will always be open to you both. If you ever need anything, please don't hesitate to ask."
Queena and Natalie smiled and nodded.
"Mr. Spencer," Queena said, "remember, keep that around your neck. Once this danger has passed, you can take it off if you wish, or you can keep it on."
Marshall swallowed hard. "I'm… never taking it off."
Queena smiled and took a string of jade beads from her bag, handing them to the matriarch. "Mrs. Spencer Sr., Natalie is my good friend, and I've heard about what happened before. Thank you for believing in her. These beads will protect you and keep you healthy."
Mrs. Spencer Sr. was both thrilled and touched. "Queena, thank you! And speaking of last time, it was Natalie who saved the Spencer family. Without her, we might not have survived the year."
Natalie remained silent. Her initial motive had simply been to keep Marshall off her back; she knew his stubborn and mischievous nature all too well.
Since Queena still had to pack, the two of them took their leave. Only then did Mrs. Spencer Sr. finally collapse onto the sofa, the strength leaving her body.
"Grandma, are you okay?" Marshall asked, his heart aching for her.
Marshall sneered. "That cold-blooded family got what they deserved. Grandma, you have no idea how hateful they are. They treated Natalie like she wasn't even human. And do you know what Jerome Scott did three days before the race? He stole a friend's designs and gave them to Sebastian's company, causing Natalie a huge loss. That Jerome is a real piece of work."
Mrs. Spencer Sr. sighed. "It takes all kinds to make a world, I suppose. Now, you should get to the office. I'll feel better knowing you're there watching over things."
Marshall had been looking for a chance to deal with Joanna. Hearing his grandmother's words, he practically flew out the door. Joanna was preparing for her acting role and was often out and about. Tonight, she had a dinner date with Sebastian, all for the sake of publicity.
Joanna arrived at the restaurant first. Just as she stepped inside, she slipped and fell hard.
"Ah!" she cried out in shock.
