Bye-bye Trash! Hello Queen! novel Chapter 287

Before Monica could answer, Jared jumped in. “They know, Mom. In fact, I came back this time to tell you that Monica and I are getting married next month. It took me a year to win her over, Mom. You have to give us your blessing.” He knew his mother looked down on Monica.

Wendy knew it was pointless to argue. Did all her sons have to destroy themselves like Jerome before they learned their lesson? And Joanna was behind it all, subtly manipulating them. Wendy couldn’t expose her, not yet. If Joanna felt cornered, she would lash out, and they would all suffer. Wendy had to ensure her own parents lived out their days in peace, not dying of shock from a family bankruptcy and a cheating son-in-law.

Monica put on a pitiful expression. “I know you don’t approve of me. My family is from the countryside, and my parents aren’t influential. We can’t help your family business. But I truly love Jared. Please, don’t try to separate us.”

“Don’t worry, Monica,” Jared soothed. “With me here, my mom won’t dare to break us up. If she tries, I’ll just run away from home again.” He knew how much his mother doted on him; even when he’d been gone for a year, she had continued to send him money.

Wendy looked at him, her heart filled with disappointment. It was her fault. She had failed to raise her children properly.

Jared saw the look in his mother’s eyes and felt a pang of unease. Why was she looking at him with such despair?

Wendy took a deep breath. “I won’t oppose you. But I don’t want to see either of you again. Take the girl you love and go live the life you want. I’m giving you your freedom.”

“You’re a grown man. You don’t listen to anything I say anyway. If you believe love comes before career in your life, then go. Go live that life.”

Jared was stunned. He hadn’t expected her to agree so easily. “Thank you, Mom!” he exclaimed, looking at her with excitement. He could finally be with Monica.

A flash of resentment crossed Monica’s face. This old hag isn’t even going to attend our wedding? How am I supposed to show my face in high society?

Wendy ignored him and didn’t see the look on Monica’s face. Instead, she turned to Joanna. “Joanna, your father collapsed in the living room this morning. I took him to the hospital, and he still hasn’t woken up. I’m busy with the company right now, so you should go stay with him.”

Joanna was shocked. “Mom, what happened to Dad? Is it serious?”

“He’s getting older, and his health is failing. He has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, but he refuses to take care of himself. He insists on eating rich, unhealthy food, and now he’s paying the price. He’ll need to be in the hospital for at least a week. You have a few days before you start filming, don’t you? You can look after him. His new girlfriend certainly won’t.”
