Wendy had just changed when Jared knocked and entered. “Mom, you can’t do this to me. I’m your son,” he said sullenly, slumping onto a nearby sofa.
Wendy looked at him, weary. “Then what do you want me to do, Jared? The most selfless and greatest love in this world is a parent’s love for their child. How much of that do you even understand? I told you the girl downstairs has a deceitful heart, but just like Jerome, you worship her like a goddess.”
“If she truly loved you, if she truly cared about this family, would she have strung you along for a year, making you chase after her?”
“I wanted you to marry Susan. You called her spoiled and rude, but that girl has a kind heart and is dedicated to her work. She’s managing her family’s company now, and it’s thriving. And you? You’ve accomplished nothing. All you care about is having fun and chasing after the woman you love.”
“Now you have her. I’ve agreed to let you be together. What more do you want?” Wendy felt helpless. She was only now seeing their flaws, and it was too late to correct them unless they chose to change themselves. If it hadn’t been for Natalie’s warning, she would have continued to live in ignorance.
Jared knew he was in the wrong, but he had no feelings for Susan. He’d known her since they were kids. She had a quirky personality, but he preferred gentle women. Still, Susan had been genuinely good to him. She was willful and had a temper, but her feelings for him were real.
Wendy thought about the trending topic she had seen online and roared, “Get out! An animal like you who would slander his own sister deserves a woman like Monica. Get out!”
Jared was stunned, unable to believe what he was hearing. “Mom, it was all Natalie’s fault! She’s a malicious woman who won’t let Sebastian go. She knows he and Joanna are in love, but she’s deliberately dragging out the divorce. I refuse to acknowledge a toxic woman like her.”
Wendy gave a bitter laugh. “Don’t worry, she doesn’t want to acknowledge you as a brother either. And as of now, you are no longer a son of the Scott family. I’ll hold a press conference tomorrow and announce that you are no longer one of us. Since you’re willing to abandon your family for ‘true love,’ I will be canceling all your credit cards and revoking your shares in the company.”
