“Hehe…” Natalie rubbed her nose sheepishly and playfully swung her grandfather’s arm. “Grandpa, I knew you loved me best.” Who needed a man when you had money? She was incredibly wealthy; she just preferred to be low-key about it. From now on, she would dedicate herself to being a rich, single woman.
“Hmph. At least you have some conscience left,” the old man grumbled. He glanced around but didn’t see Queena. “That little girl Queena doesn’t even have a boyfriend. Why is she sleeping in so late?” They were all of marriageable age, yet none of them seemed to be in a hurry. He was the only one stressing about it.
“Grandpa, what kind of logic is that? Are you saying women with boyfriends are always late risers?” Natalie asked, genuinely confused.
The old man’s face flushed. Was the girl really that clueless, or was she just pretending? “Fine, fine. You young people work too hard. You deserve to sleep in.” He huffed and went to the breakfast table, his eyelids drooping. He couldn’t keep up with the youth anymore.
Natalie called Queena, who was still deep in sleep after a late night of reading. The ringing phone woke her, and she answered with a groan. “Hello? Whoever this is, I hope you know that disturbing someone’s sleep is bad karma.”
Natalie shuddered. “Queena, time to get up. Breakfast is ready,” she said, her voice full of laughter. The books in her study were irresistible; she knew her friend must have been up all night.
“Natalie, I’m so sorry,” Queena mumbled apologetically. “Your study is amazing, and this bed is too comfortable. I can’t get up. Please apologize to your grandfather for me. Let me dream a little longer. I’ll never find a bed this good back home.”
Natalie quietly hung up. Her grandfather, seeing her expression, knew exactly what had happened. He smiled to himself. The girls he had watched grow up were all exceptional. He was immensely proud. A love of reading was a good thing; it offered answers when life was difficult.
She realized that letting go of Sebastian had brought her more happiness than she had felt in years. Her life no longer revolved around him, and it was liberating. No more waking up at six to make him breakfast. No more waiting up late for him to come home for a midnight snack. No more dealing with his family’s endless drama. It was a relief. Now, she was living for herself.
To avoid repeating her past mistakes, Natalie diligently studied the company’s business files, poring over every word. She even had lunch in the garden. The day flew by. By the afternoon, she had a clear understanding of all the divisions under her management. Her assistant, Luna, picked her up, and they went to a salon before heading to the venue to meet Matthew.
The event was at the renowned Ocean Grant Hotel, which Natalie knew was a Griffith family property. She hesitated at the entrance. What were the chances she would run into Mr. Mistake?
