Sebastian’s eyes turned cold in an instant, and his heart gave a strange jolt. He snarled, “This is just another one of Natalie’s tricks to get my attention.”
“I kick her out of the car, and this is how she retaliates. Utterly foolish. I’m not going to see her. Don’t mention her to me again.”
With that cold dismissal, Sebastian turned and walked away.
Sean watched his unforgiving back and pursed his lips. Fine. Sebastian didn’t deserve her anyway.
He didn’t bring up Natalie again, deciding instead to visit her after work.
…
On the island, Joanna had just finished filming for the day when Horace handed her his phone. He smiled slyly. “Miss, that fool Maxwell… we just had to provoke him a little, and he went right after Natalie.”
Joanna watched the news report, dissatisfied. “Why didn’t he kill her? It’s not a success until she’s dead.”
Horace explained, “It seems Natalie reacted quickly. Just as the car was about to hit her, she jumped onto the hood. Her injuries aren’t severe, but we’ve achieved our goal. This is enough to start a war between the cousins, Marshall and Maxwell.”
“When they’ve destroyed each other, we can swoop in and take everything.”
Joanna found this plan acceptable. Her eyes gleamed with a murderous light. “If it weren’t for Natalie, the Spencer family would have been ours long ago.”
Horace’s lips curved into a chillingly vicious smile, like a demon emerging from the depths, full of malice and schemes. “Miss, the Wilson family will soon be in the palm of our hand. That old man is completely infatuated with you. I have my people in place, right by his side, ready to send him into ecstasy at any moment.”
Joanna trusted him to handle things reliably, so she felt at ease. “Good. As for Maxwell, give him something more potent. Have Nora and the others find an opportunity to strike. It must be done cleanly. We use others to do our dirty work; we never do it ourselves.”
Horace sneered. “Miss, Maxwell is our knife.”
Joanna smiled, a beautiful expression hiding a deep malice. It was like frost in the dead of winter, cold and cruel, plunging anyone who saw it into an icy abyss.
