Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 153

Viola was absolutely livid at what Jocelyn had said; she threw a fit in the private dining room that lasted quite a while.

None of their classmates could calm her down, and the waitstaff, wary of her status, didn't dare cross her either.

In the end, the manager of Halcyon Hall had to come over and knock on the door, asking Jocelyn to step outside for a moment.

Since the Fairchild family held shares in Halcyon Hall, and since Jocelyn was the one who'd provoked Viola, it fell to her to handle the situation.

Jocelyn didn't object. She glanced at Cynthia, said a quick word, and stood up.

Cynthia rose as well. "Let me go with you."

But Jocelyn gently pressed her back down into her seat. "Better not. No need to risk her taking it out on you. My brother's been working with the Kingsley family lately, and Viola's just a distant relative—she can't stir up enough trouble to make the Kingsleys go after me. There's nothing she can do."

"If she weren't making such a scene and disturbing other guests, I wouldn't even bother with her. I'll be right back."

Cynthia nodded, watching as Jocelyn and the manager stepped out.

Half an hour passed. The food on the table had long gone cold, but there was still no sign of Jocelyn.

Her phone and purse were still on the table.

Worry crept up on Cynthia. She picked up Jocelyn's things and left the private room to look for her.

She had just turned a corner when her phone began to ring.

As Cynthia reached for it, someone bumped into her from the side, sending her phone tumbling to the floor.

She quickly bent down to pick it up, but someone else snatched it up first.

Looking up, Cynthia thought the man looked familiar—maybe a classmate? But she couldn't place his name.

He recognized her first.

"Cynthia?"

She nodded politely, a mild smile on her lips. "Hi."
